I know the majority of you do not enjoy Metal Gear Online, I however got really into it back in the day, I was getting kind of bored of all the online stuff I have now and was thinkng of getting back into it. Does anybody else here still play this, do you think ANYBODY else in the world still plays this?

Some people probably still play this, like any other obscure multiplayer title.

That would be cool, but the game is unfortuntly region locked so it would be difficult

    @Vortexus1981

Your thinking of the Metal Gear Solid 3 Subsitance MGO, this is the MGS4 MGO.

@Hizang: Oh wow, I wasn't even aware that a previous MGS title had multiplayer. Thought MGS4 was the first one. I haven't played MGO yet but I hope I'll be able to find a match easily when I feel like trying it out in the future.

....Was it the one on PS2?  That's the only MGO I ever heard of or played.  If it's that one, then I played the shit out of that game.

    No PS3

I downloaded all of the DLC to and spent a whole load of money on there store buying over priced things. Playing as Raiden was pretty sweet though..

I really enjoyed playing it back at release, but haven't touched it in years.

I remember there being some infuriating login mechanism. Fairly sure I forgot my details and stopped playing because of that.

I still have mine wriiten down, but yes it was stupid.

My characters name was "Snap Shot", and my catchphrase before each match was "Prepare to be Snap Shot" and every time I won a match I would say "You've just been Snap Shot"

    haha same here

It was pretty fun, but the 46 login screens didn't help much. Plus you had to download the DLC from a separate store and not the PSN which for some reason really bothered me back then although it probably wouldn't now...

Also from what I remember, connecting to a game was a bitch. maybe it was because I lived on campus at the time and the internet connection didn't like to make friends with consoles though. meh

I liked it a lot. But anytime there was a new patch or whatever, it was always huge and for some reason took forever so I gave up on it.

I must have missed the point of this game because I thought it was utter horse shit, from the stupid Konami ID to the lackluster gameplay.

I remember it took ages to sign up, you had to make two accounts. I tried it for a while, but decided I'd go back to it once I finish the game. Even though I've finished it, I never went back... guess now might be a good time to do that.

Edit: I only read half of that post I quoted, silly me. :(

Does MGO play like a TPS only or can you sneak and actually have fun doing so? Also, does it only focus on lethal kills or can you tranq and CQC and win? (My favourite part of MGS is sneaking if you couldn't tell :P)

You can go all rambo or all stealth, you can CQC and Tranq guns and magazines and pretty much all MGS4 weapons including cardboard boxs! You have select points which you can put into cataogorys like assault riffle skill to sneaking skill to CQC skill etc. There were modes were it was a team Deathmatch, red vs blue, but also a yellow team consisting of a Solid Snake and an MKII which was really fun to play as.

It takes me 10 hours to DL the patches and the Konami id bull crap made me stop playing, but i did enjoy some of the unique mechanics that they had for online. If they make another one for Rising but fix that i would definitely play.

That sounds ridiculously fun. When you score a tranq shot does it count as a point in Deathmatch? Or do you need to finish them off?

No, they just fall asleep, if you fall asleep you have to rotate the analog stick to wake back up, takes a while though, Your team members can wake you up though, it gets intense at times if you get tranqed but the person who tranqed you gets killed by an ally, but the ally dosn't see you. So your left there rotating rappidly hoping an enemy dosn'tstumble across you and kill you before you wake up.

I used to play the shit out of MGO. But, with all the glitchers and Konami refusing to do anything about them, I lost interest.

I was one of the first people to get FOXHOUND too. Back in the day, I was a monster at that game, man. I was a monster.

@Sasran: It's hard to jump in because most people who still play it are very hardcore, ie they have all the map packs and dlc and stuff so you will have a hard time finding a room that doesn't require all that stuff. Also, they are really good at it so it might be frustrating to learn the game at this point. I jumped on for a few matches myself about 2 months ago but it took a bit to find a game bc of the aforementioned stuff.

Is $17.99 worth it for the 3 expansions? (GENE, MEME, and SCENE) I'm probably going to wait until the PSN store re-opens anyway but I was just wondering what you guys think?

@kingzetta: Yes, the game was very popular during its first 6 months. It was a real blast. An online experience unlike any other I'd say.
All this talk about it makes me miss it. Hmm, I don't know if I want to go back to it though.

I've always wanted to play this and I actually sat through the updates when I bought a PS3 and MGS4 in 2009.

Man I was impressed by the levels and what seemed like levels of depth, but the community was too niche for its own good and Konami had no interest in making it smooth.

Plus the clunky controls took some getting used to for single player.

    @Hizang
    :
You should definitely start a thread asking for people who have never played this but have MGS4 to give it a shot now that PSN is back up.

We should do a MGO noob day.

Sure, i'm still playing. But i'm still having a hard time with the shitty community though, seriously, a whole clan on your team starts killing you just because they want you to go down a level, hosts that kick if you arent doing EXACTLY what they want you do to, idiots who don't press start at the countdown because they don't like the current map or repeatedly votes to restart a TSNE round just because he died.

Even with a community worse than Call of dutys it's still a great and fun game and i would love to get some kind of MGO playday going with people who arent assholes.

Started playing it again, there are very few servers (EU) but still hell-a-fun.
