So I just completed this but did so completely skipping all dialogue after the first hour as I found it bad, can someone give me a short summary of what happened.

I'm actually also interested in this. I've played around ~15 hours and it hasn't been able to pull me in. Interested to know if any parts of the narrative are worth playing to!

Its the same story you've already played. Some species is harvesting another to make their own. And you have to stop them.

From what I was told, the Kett are basically buff collectors in that they're a species of genetically engineered living weapons that go around absorbing other races by genetic therapy (so they aren't a 'real' race with culture and history and you don't need to feel any compunction in killing them). The big bad Archon wants to seize the ancient alien terraforming technology and use it to turn everyone into kett. After you kill the archon and the credits roll, the post credit sequence shows another big evil kett leader looking down menancingly at the situation from orbit and turning away, then the game goes 'the story will continue in the DLCs!'.

I'd play Mass Effect: The Quest for This.
