Overview
Malon is a recurring character in the Legend of Zelda series that first appeared in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. She lives on and works at Lon Lon Ranch, which is owned and operated by her family. She has since made appearances to varying degrees in other entries in the franchise. Her appearance and name are inspired by Marin of The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening.
Ocarina of Time
Malon and her father Talon run Lon Lon Ranch, located in Hyrule. She and her father raise cows for their milk, as well as cuccos and horses. One horse in particular that Malon cares for is called Epona.
Malon's favorite song, which she can frequently be heard singing, is Epona's Song. This is a song that she learned from her mother and which has the power to tame the usually wild Epona. After Malon teaches Link this song, he gains the ability to ride Epona.
In the future era, Talon is kicked out of the ranch after Ganondorf grants control of it to the ranch hand Ingo. Malon stays at the ranch and puts up with Ingo's strict rule out of fear that the animals may be mistreated. She and Talon regain control of the ranch after Link defeats Ingo in a race and escapes the ranch with Epona.
Majora's Mask
Unlike most residents of Hyrule, Malon has not one, but two counterparts in the alternate-universe land of Termina in The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. Romani Ranch, Termina's equivalent to Lon Lon Ranch, is run by a young woman named Cremia, who looks just like Malon does as an adult, and her younger sister, Romani, who refers to herself in the third person and looks just like Malon does as a child.
