This was a triumph.
I'm making a note here: HUGE SUCCESS.

Steam, Portal 2 Coming To Mac
Thats cool, to bad my G4 mac won't be powerful enough to play any new valve game... But hey thats why I have my Xbox 360 for.
If I recall correctly, Valve fucking hate the PS3. They were adamantly against the port of the Orange Box and wasted no time dissing the PS3 in the process.
"It's not that Valve dont like PS3, it's that Microsoft doesn't like PS3... "
Microsoft doesn't like apple a whole lot more...
So if I was to buy say Left 4 Dead 2 at best buy right now would I be able to install it through discs on my mac when this client comes out?
" So if I was to buy say Left 4 Dead 2 at best buy right now would I be able to install it through discs on my mac when this client comes out? "Technically you wouldn't be able to install it, but you would have a CD key that you could redeem on steam and download the Mac version.
I have a mac, but I can never see companies taking the time and effort to port or make games for such a small market segment. Unless developers start adopting more open standards such as Open CL and a good number of engines get ported over, I really don't see this venture gaining legs. But then again, what the hell do I know about making games...
Don't have a Mac but this is pretty cool. If nothing more, it will lead to more people in multiplayer.
I got a Very Fast PC right now... But I got my eyes on that 27in iMac....I will Wait for the next Upgrade to roll out in the Fall. I want the 27in iMac with Radeon 5700-5800 series Video Card and with at least 1 GB Video Memory...blu-ray would be nice but doesn't matter.
When That happens then Maybe .....
I have a mac, and I am very pleased.
Fact is, I've been buying a bunch of games on Steam these last 2 years. The problem is, my PC is 8 years old, so I must confine myself to less graphics-intensive indie games and older big games. My more up-to-date Macbook will run a lot more games :)
You have to see it like this:" I have a mac, but I can never see companies taking the time and effort to port or make games for such a small market segment. Unless developers start adopting more open standards such as Open CL and a good number of engines get ported over, I really don't see this venture gaining legs. For the hardcore gamers they basically become the only alternative on Mac, I'm sure that it's profitable as long as it stays like that.
But what is probably more important to them is that they can get a share of all those app-buying people with apple-hardware. If they get steam running on Mac, they can deliver all sorts of stuff with its marketplace. All those mini games you see on the app-store right now and apple is getting crazy rich of, Valve will get a share of them.

Or maybe Valve just doesn't like to do business with the Japanease.
I'm kind've bemused as to why they would want to make a move to the mac and not the PS3... surely they would find a bigger market there!
Great to see, I don't get some of the bitterness in the thread. To the Mac haters: big deal, it doesn't affect you, I am sorry other people's happiness makes you bitter. Not like they are pulling Windows support.
Would like to see PS3 coverage eventually, but one thing at a time. Anything that saves me having to boot into Windows just to play games is a strong plus. I can probably get rid of my Windows partition if this does well, which not only makes things more convenient for me, but saves a lot of space.
" @Ubiquitous said:Or maybe Valve is run by evil alien overlords from the planet Zebes."@JoeH said:Or maybe Valve just doesn't like to do business with the Japanease. ""It's not that Valve dont like PS3, it's that Microsoft doesn't like PS3... "Microsoft doesn't like apple a whole lot more... "
(Am I doing it right?)
" If I may get "sensational" for moment, note that Valve considers the Mac to be "tier-1" but not the PlayStation 3. Burn? "
lulz.
