Overview
Originally a minor background character in My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, Lyra gained popularity among fans due to her frequent background appearances, which were made additionally noteworthy by her frequent companion, Bon Bon, as well as her odd, human-esque sitting habits. Due to this popularity, Lyra gained an increased role in later seasons.
Lyra's closeness to Bon Bon becomes a minor plot point in later seasons, with the two briefly fighting over Bon Bon having kept secret her former life as a S.M.I.L.E. agent. Despite this, the two eventually make amends, returning to appearing next to one another in various scenes, including being seen exchanging gifts on Hearts and Hooves day, a pony-themed equivalent of Valentine's Day. In the show's ninth and final season, during the episode "The Big Mac Question", the two propose to one another at the same time, having married by the time of the show's second-to-last episode, "The Last Problem".
