    Overview

Legend of Grimrock II is a first-person party-based dungeon crawler from developer Almost Human released on October 15th, 2014. Like its predecessor, Legend of Grimrock II is a real-time, grid-based RPG focused around exploration, puzzles and combat, drawing influence from games like Dungeon Master and Eye of the Beholder. Continuing that influence even further, much as Dungeon Master II and Eye of the Beholder II expanded from a single dungeon to a wider outside world so too does Legend of Grimrock II, taking place on a mysterious island rather than the dungeon of Mount Grimrock.

    Character Creation

Like the first game, Legend of Grimrock II has the player create their entire party of 1 to 4 characters from a handful of races and classes. However, the character development system has been greatly expanded, with 5 races (previously 4) and 8 classes (previously 3), with 4 different stats (Strength, Dexterity, Vitality, Willpower) and two bonus traits chosen at character creation.

    Races

    • Human: Unsurprisingly, humans are the most flexible race and excel at any profession. +10% gained experience, can also start with the quick learner (Another +10% gained experience) and skilled (+1 skill point at character creation) traits
    • Minotaur: Extremely strong and hardy, Minotaurs make great front line characters. Just don't expect them to hit as often or to have much use for magic. +5 Strength, -4 Dex, +4 Vitality -3 Willpower +25% food consumption. Can start with the Head Hunter (+1 Damage for every skull in inventory) and Rage (+10 Strength when under 20% HP) traits.
    • Lizardman: A swift and agile race, Lizardmen excel at dexterous classes but aren't as much for magic. +2 Dexterity, -2 Willpower +25% resistance to all elements. That resistance can be boosted again with the Endure Elements Trait (another +25% resistance to all elements), in addition to Poison Immunity (exactly what it says) and Fast Metabolism (Health and Energy regenerate 30% faster but food consumption increases by 20%. Also healing potions are twice as effective)
    • Insectoid: A strange and alien race, Insectoids are skilled in the magical arts but can also fight hand-to-hand if necessary. +1 Strength -2 Dexterity, -1 Vitality, +2 Willpower. 50% less likely to take limb damage. Their racial traits are Chitin Armor (+10 protection) and Quick (All actions are 10% faster)
    • Ratling: New in Legend of Grimrock 2, Ratlings are also skilled in a variety of dexterity-based character builds. -4 Strength, +2 Dexterity, +15kg carrying capacity, Immune to disease. They only have one unique racial trait: Mutation (+1 to a random stat on level-up)

    Classes

Unlike the first game, any class in Legend of Grimrock 2 can learn any skill, meaning that a frontline fighter could still cast magic if they had the appropriate skills and wizards could still wear heavy armor or use any weapons. Instead, classes are differentiated by their starting and per-level Health and Energy, as well as their own unique passive traits.

    • Alchemist: Alchemy ingredients automatically multiply in their inventory and firearms are 50% less likely to malfunction (50 Health +6/level, 50 Energy +4/level)
    • Barbarian: +1 Strength per level (80 Health +10/level, 30 Energy +3/level)
    • Battle Mage: Equipped armor weighs 50% less, can cast spells bare-handed and gains a boost to defense and resistance when holding a staff or orb. (50 Health +5/level, 50 energy +5/level)
    • Farmer: An unique class who does not start with any skill points or gain experience from fighting monsters. Instead, they gain experience by eating food. (30 Health +5/level, 30 Energy +5/level)
    • Fighter: Weapon special attacks take half as long to charge up and cost 25% less energy (70 Health +7/level, 30 Energy +3/level)
    • Knight: Weight of equipped armor is decreased by 50%, evasion bonus from equipped shields is increased by 50%, +1 Protection per level. (70 Health +7/level, 30 Energy +3/level)
    • Rogue: Damage penalty from dual wielding is reduced to 25% (from 40%), +1% critical chance per level to thrown and missile attacks (45 Health +5/level, 40 Energy +5/level
    • Wizard: +2 Willpower, can cast spells bare-handed. (35 Health +3/Level, 50 Energy +7/level)
