In auto racing, standing starts have the cars or go-karts stationary in the starting grid as the race begins. To commence racing in a standing start, a set of red lights is needed before the green one goes off to start the race.
A grid that is organized for the start of the race in rows of 2, 3 or more. Very useful for standing starts in various racing titles.
Players compete against the clock to secure the fastest time possible. This is often added to racing games for extra replay value and typically requires a higher degree of skill.
Vehicular combat combines driving and combat to form a unique fast paced action game. Many games are purely vehicular combat based (e.g. Twisted Metal or Vigilante 8) or can contain have sections for such combat (e.g. Halo or Mass Effect).
