Mini-bio
Joe "Satch" Satriani is a heavy metal guitarist who has become known for his instrumental solo albums. Although he has taught many guitar legends such as Steve Vai and Metallica's Kirk Hammet, he was largely unknown until the mid-eighties. His first major release was 1986's Not of this Earth which immediately garnered interest in the rock guitar community. But Satch is probably best known for his sophomore effort, 1987's Surfing with the Alien, which earned him widespread critical acclaim and a legion of fans. Satriani is known for continually adapting his music to match the current trends, while still maintaining his signature playing style. In contrast to many of his fellow rock guitarist, he likes to create albums with catchy melodies and crafty songs rather than flaunt his shredding skills.
Satriani has released 13 studio albums over the years and sold over 10 million records worldwide. He has also been nominated for 14 Grammyawards, giving him the most nominations without winning one.
