Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds PLATFORM (PS3) PUBLISHER (SCEI) PRICE $60 ESRB RATING (E for Everyone) PLAYERS (1-4) Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds is a very lighthearted take on the game of golf but this does not mean that it is missing the depth you have come to expect from other, more realistic golf games. Where Hot Shots really shines is the way you control your golf swing. You press the X button to begin your swing. Then a translucent marker shows you where you want your swing to stop if you want to hit the ball with your full power. Hitting the X button earlier than the maximum point will give you an underpowered hit on the ball. If you miss this maximum mark, then the swing resets and you can then start the swing over again. You also have a circle meter that begins to collapse once you set your swing strength. You press the X button once the circle is closest to completely collapsing, and this is what sets your swing accuracy and spin. Hot Shots offers online play, but this experience feels a bit stunted by the lack of voice chat. The main game also keeps you playing the same courses over and over again. This is a good thing because it forces you to learn them inside and out, but is a bad thing because it forces you to play for longer than you should to see some of the better bits of the game. None of the flaws are enough to ruin the experience, but they are all areas that should have been fixed before the game was released. Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds is a game that anyone can play, and sadly seems designed for the gamers the least likely to buy the game; non- golf fans. The fact that this games pleasant mix of realistic style courses and cartoony looking graphics might turn off some gamers is a crying shame. Players too cool to play a cartoony looking game will be missing out on one of the most zen and layed back golf games ever created. If you like this, you might also like these.
