The harmonica is a free-reed aerophone, in the same instrument family as the accordion and melodica. Invented in Europe in the early 1800's, the instrument is often associated with folk music, and is perhaps most known for its use in American blues music. There are many varieties of harmonicas, but the most common and well known is the ten-hole diatonic.
