Grip mechanics vary from game to game, although the common thread is that they all are about the player's ability to grab and hold onto a object. Some games have a grip meter a gauge, similar to a stamina meter, where it will drain the longer the player is holding on, such as in Metal Gear Solid, or Shadow of the Colossus. Other games use grip mechanics as a small QTE mechanic, where the player must rapidly press a button in order to grab onto an object before they fall off.
