The return of "gangster" to Grand Theft Auto
The last installment of GTA was "gangsta." GTA: Liberty City Stories is the return of "gangster" to the GTA franchise.
If you've played GTA III, LCS is very alike. For a budget price, it's a fun game, albeit a bit out of place in an industry that's advanced beyond the era of GTA III. As such, the gameplay seems a bit simplistic, and the graphics a bit bland. Nonetheless, it's still a fun game, and if you're a GTA addict (like myself), the bland graphics and simplistic missions structures are not a big impediment to enjoying a new GTA. The music is decent - nothing like the soundtrack of Vice City - but decent. The voice acting is well done, but the cutscenes are a bit on the short side. Gameplay is your classic GTA gameplay; virtually nothing has been changed since GTA III. The only complaints I had were that the targeting system is wonky, and the ending mission was rather anticlimactic. Besides those, the game is very enjoyable if you're not tired out of the ol' GTA formula yet. So if you're looking for an experience very akin to GTAIII, check out Liberty City Stories. For a budget price, it's a great value and a satisfying game.
