If you are a video game with cars in it, there is a very good chance that you will get to be a movie eventually. Cases in point: the still in-production Need for Speed movie which will probably be a lot like Fast & Furious except with Aaron Paul instead of Paul Walker, and Sony's newly announced Gran Turismo movie. Yes, the PlayStation exclusive driving simulation series has been greenlit for a film adaptation, courtesy of The Social Network and 50 Shades of Grey producers Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti.

The Wrap's exclusive report on the announcement gives few details on how the producers might seek to shape a plot-less driving simulation into a thing people would pay $14 to go see in a movie theater. Presumably, there will be quite a few cars driving at exceedingly fast speeds, actors you may have heard of speaking words, and some kind of story involving one of those actors who drives those cars because of important reasons. He will also probably be very handsome.

For those of you currently readying comments exclaiming this to be the stupidest idea ever, I would point you to the part in The Wrap's story where they remind us that there is also a Hot Wheels movie currently in development. So just weigh that information before chiming in.

Clearly, the in depth, honest and heartbreaking documentary about the craziness in the studio behind these games is about to be released to theatres.

I'm hoping this is secretly just a remake of Herbie Goes Bananas.

Otherwise... meh. I can't say I've ever like a single of the car francise movies.

I can't think of a game with less personality to carry over to the silver screen.

If this movie does not have cars slamming into each other to stay on the course, with zero damage as a result I will view it as a complete failure.

If this comes to fruition, it might be the thing that gets me to see a movie in theaters for the first time in like half a decade. How could I not?!

I think Alex makes a good point. This could probably be anything and why it was optioned in the first place. Eh here's a name people recognize with cars, go make a movie.

It's a shame projects like this aren't given to people who would never make a movie about cars to make a movie about cars.

I think a Hot Wheels movie is a better idea than a Gran Turismo one. :D

I wanted to point out that Alex presumes it will be a Male lead, but I ended up writing I'd like to see a Woman protagonist...and now I can't tell which one sounds more sexist... :-(. This is hard. (not my junk).

That sounds really dumb, why not pick InFamous? that could be a pretty good movie if done right and it could stand apart from other superhero movies given the fact that Cole isn't really a superhero he's just a guy with superpowers and he doesn't wear a costume either. I think that would make him more relatable if you give him a little bit of personality.

Oh awesome I have been waiting a loooong time for a Cannonball Run remake.

I wish it had to do even less with cars than Gran Torino. Would totally go see it then.

They should film the move for three years, then release a thirty minute preview, then film for another couple of years before releasing the full version of the film.

At some point the movie industry is just going to completely implode and it is going to be amazing.

I am exactly as excited about the Gran Turismo movie as I am for the Hot Wheels movie.

I actually think this could be kind of okay if they stuck to authentic racing, didn't make it all action-y under pressure to compete with Need for Speed/Fast 7, and added in some solid personal drama to underscore the races.

I'm really not sure how to feel about this.. if the Gran Turismo team have pushed for this then surely it won't be that bad? Famous last words there.. but yeah.. I'm interested to see what comes of this.

It's just gonna be 2 hours of car porn. No story required.
