A break with tradition
I went into this game blind. Sorry, I should clarify. I've played all the main entries in the series. I missed the titles from the portable platforms, not by choice, but ease of access. Aside from trailers and reaction videos (such as E3 coverage on GB), I hadn't seen much. I feel this was paramount to my enjoyment of God Of War. The amalgam of systems from the combat, world exploration, and skill tree were a more than welcome addition. Don't get me wrong, I loved the previous games, but a lot has happened in gaming in the past seven years. The team behind God Of War not only acknowledged, but embraced that. The storytelling in this entry far surpasses anything in the series before. If you own a PS4, don't walk, run to this game. While it is a break with tradition from the standpoint of the previous games, it is also a throwback to the self-contained pay-your-money-and-get-everything-we-put-into-this-project model. Wonderful.
