Overview
Garouden Breakblow (loosely translated to "Legend of the Hungry Wolf: Breakblow", also stylized as Ga-Rou-Den Breakblow) is a 3D fighting game developed by Opus and published by ESP Software for the PlayStation 2 exclusively in Japan on November 17, 2005.
It is a fighting game adaptation of the martial arts manga series Garouden, developed by the studio behind some of the earliest game adaptations of the mixed martial arts organization Ultimate Fighting Championship. It features most of the manga's cast of fighters from various forms of martial arts (including karate and professional wrestling), and is known for including the main antagonist from the manga Baki the Grappler as a guest character.
One of the key features of the game is its "Spirit Gauge", were both players share a single vitality gauge that moves back-and-forth in a tug-of-war fashion (similar to Death Match mode in the 1993 game World Heroes 2). As the meter shifts towards the player getting hit by attacks, they can break one of that player's three "chains" on the gauge to grant them access to special one-time abilities.
It later received a sequel in 2007, known as Garouden Breakblow: Fist or Twist.
