    Gardener

Character » appears in 4 games

The Gardener is an enemy in Castlevania 64, Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness and the Saturn version of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. He has a chainsaw for a hand in the N64 games, and is simply a middle aged man with giant scissors in SOTN.

    Short summary describing this character.

Reminiscent of Scissor Man, the Symphony of the Night version of this character has this description in that game's bestiary:

Crazy gardener in the Castlevania. He doesn't pardon for the rude person who wastes a garden.

The N64 version is seemingly a cross between Frankenstein's Monster (who has been featured in numerous installments in the franchise up to and after this point) and Ash Williams (who is the most famous dude to have a chainsaw for a hand).

While the two are arguably different characters in nearly every way apart from sharing a name and a relentless, violent intent to pursue all that they perceive as encroaching on the garden they are so passionately maintaining; this may be enough to consider them 2 iterations of the same character, as there are many other examples of in the Castlevania franchise. Also, SoTN took place in 1797, and the earliest reemergence of the character would have been in 1844 - what may have happened in those 47 years to this man in such a grim world, one can only speculate.
