Yup Hollywood slowly killing your childhood one film at a time. Really i understand that it would not look like the RoboCop i knew and loved from my childhood and i normally dont get that upset when it comes to this shit (its to be expected after all) BUT WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT?! he looks like a bad Batman/ Iron Man knock off. hell Captain Power looked way cooler then that. Im done i have lost all faith in the human race im going to exile myself to the mountains and live out the remainder of my life in solitude..
The NEW RoboCop...

...
...Oh my... why do the keep shitting on/"remaking" my old childhood "heroes"... This "armour" looks really BAD!
Looks kinda like Batman combined with Judge Dredd to me. I actually like it, though I have never seen the original film. I always thought the original design was very goofy-looking.
Here's a rundown on some of the highlights of the script (complete with horrible ways of including phrases from the original movie into the new movie):

What is up with taking the films of Paul Verhoeven and completely destroying them? Total Recall remake was shit, the director for the upcoming Starship Troopers remake said he is going to remove the satirical in your face fascism in favor of good ol' fashion patriotism, and there is no way this Robocop will be even half as good as the original.
Yeah, that first shot looks like they are just doing test footage. It might not end up looking like that when the start full blown production. I mean it doesn't even look like they have sound equipment on that set. They are probably still in pre-production, and that suit looks really boring the way it is. Maybe they still have to paint it and whatnot.

Wait, what? This....What?
I love Robocop, fantastic movie and I know it would be easy to whine, but that old suit just wouldn't work now. The modern design is fine, It's kinda generic armour type thing, but what else could they have done without making it look silly?

Same. Not sure what all the rage is about, in addition to those shots being pre-production.
And stories have been retold since the beginning of history. Re-makes aren't a new thing specific to this generation. Anytime a favorite of mine gets remade, it doesn't really bother me since it usually just rekindles the interest in the originals. Just ignore it.
/shrug
I hate Hollywood so much. I don't hate the design of the suit but it's just not necessary to remake this movie. Or the countless others for that matter.
Have they confirmed this is the new suit? What if it's just some sort of prototype or they're going to add some effects afterwards.
The old suit is fine, but there are a ton of amateur designs and concept art out there that look more inspired that this insipid suit.
They make a Crysis movie? Good for them.

What?! This is RoboCop?!

Is that Kamin Rider?

Kamen Rider Black.
Robocop is a cyborg and not a man in a suit of armor. Personally I think the original design is still more plausible. Save for the head, nothing about that suit screams Robot.
Here's hoping that maybe there's more to be added to that suit.

I thought it was closer to..
I think they could have gone with the redemptive-reborn-knight-christ thing robocop has going on and deck him out in all white. Get something going like this:

To be fair, the armor from the original looked crappy too. This new armor looks like accelerator suits from the G.I. Joe movie.
The original was meant to look robotic, not like a suit. This design looks terrible.
Well, even if it was meant to look robotic, it still looked crappy.
He was a prototype unit. He was built for utility, not sleekness.
@cannonballBAM: it's been way too long since I've thought about the masked rider, that shit was the best
@cannonballBAM: Ha-hah-ha! Good show, sir. Well done.
As for the two comparisons at the top of this thread, original Robocop's design feels more individualistic than new Robocop. The new design looks bland to me.
I don't mind remakes if the movie deserves it. If Robocop still didn't hold up, wasn't considered a classic, or the special effects are laughable bad then a remake would seem like a good idea. Robocop still holds up, is considered to be a classic, and I think the Robocop design and costume and the stop motion animation is still kind of impressive even by today's standards.
Although i don't care for the suit design i withhold my judgement till i see the film because unlike a lot of people i welcome reboots/remakes. I don't buy into this "ruining childhoods" or "ruining franchises" bullshit and the same thing happened with Spider-Man, Thor and Captain America. We saw behind the scenes suit shots and they looked absolutely terrible and most people agree they looked great when the movie came out.
As it stands from the picture i am not the biggest fan of this suit but i also understand this is completely out of context and i hear it transforms so who knows? I am excited to see the movie and can overlook silly suits, i thought the batman suits in all 3 nolan movies were just silly looking but those were amazing films so my excitement for this film still stands.
Looks OK to me. I love Robocop, but I'm not against them changing it as long as it's cool. I don't know if I read this correctly, but I think in the movie there's going to be a point in the film where they actually have the regular suit, and some character makes the joke that it looks like an 80's toy, so it changes. I don't know if that's true though. Also, I agree with what some others have said it looked like, but I'd also like to add what I think it could be in; to me, it looks like a suit I could purchase as DLC for Mass Effect 3. The one thing I don't like about the picture is that his right hand isn't armored, but I hope and imagine that's not going to be in the actual movie as a full time thing.
Edit - I just heard it's going to be PG-13... That's not good.

That still doesn't make him look any less crappy.
You have yet to define "crappy."
@Jackel2072: It's supposed to be a prequel of sorts. So it's not much of a shock that it looks more prototype-ish. Also, it looks more like the stuff under the steel plates.

You need me to define the term "crappy" for you? Seriously? Both designs look bad to me; some people think this new design is ruining a part of their childhood, but I've always thought Robocop looked bad (even though I enjoyed the films). My comment was simply pointing out that I think both designs are bad, I don't understand why you keep droning on with your excuses for the shoddiness of the original.
By defining crappy, I was asking, how is it crappy?

Looks more like a suit of armor than someone who got reconstructed with mechanical parts. Like the G.I. Joe suit in that Hollywood adaptation.
It defiantly has a SyFy Phantom Suit/GI Joe suit vibe going on. It defiantly doesn't have a Robocop vibe to it and yeah it looks more body armor than mechanical and that worries me.
