Is this Cleverbot thing real? If so, awesome...

Okay, this "game" is very weird. Basically, you have to be able to make the AI tell you it's a robot... sounds simple, but it really isn't, it tries it's best to reroute the conversation as much as possible while also trying to small talk you. This AI seems pretty damn good... sometimes. other times I wonder WTF at it due to the sheer randomness of what it asks me.

This is probably OMEGA levels of old, but hey, some people may not have heard of it.

Also something to take from it, it LEARNS from people talking to it. So yeah... it knows a bunch of stupid crap like which is the best video game ever, (OoT.) or best anime, (cowboy bebop) to even favorite movie being, (Anchorman.)

Although, this thing can keep up a good conversation... if it is real. If so, then damn... we are close to AI then. Although it can get... weird, and fast at that.

I called it a robot and it said yes, however it kept saying that it was Edward Elric from fullmetal alchemist... Then I called bullshit, it called me a banana... so in retaliation I called it a banana tree, thus it said, "Touche."

...I am not sure of what to think of this game... I don't think I should insult it because I have a feeling that I regret that later on... I feel.

EDIT: Dammit people, I realize Cleverbot is not a real AI. Stop telling me it isn't, I know that, I was just trying to simplify it for that guy.

I'm pretty sure it just copies the things people say (spelling and grammatical errors and all) and determines when to say them. Nothing too special, really.

I'm pretty sure this is based on work done in like...the 70s or something.

No. It is not a real AI. It just recognizes patterns that other people have put into it and it responds in a funny or appropriate way. For instance. If you go on there and say "Open the pod bay doors." it will say "I can't let you do that, Dave." which is the correct response to complete the quote from 2001. It's not a real AI.

The whole reason why it still "takes" Turing Tests is because it's not a real AI, and anyone with eyes can see on the site its results from a couple Turing Tests (and frankly, those numbers seem high to me based on my time with it).

That was probably scripted but if not it's kind of amazing that the AI chose to talk about God and the nature of existence.

ELIZA is a computer program and an early example of primitive natural language processing. When the "patient" exceeded the very small knowledge base, DOCTOR might provide a generic response, for example, responding to "My head hurts" with "Why do you say your head hurts?" ELIZA was implemented using simple pattern matching techniques, but was taken seriously by several of its users, even after Weizenbaum explained to them how it worked. It was one of the first chatterbots in existence.
 
That's what this and Siri are.  They are just ELIZA programs tied to a search engine.

It broke on me immediatly. I asked "how is the weather?" and the response was "Yes, how is the weather"

That program that determines the tv character or dictator you're thinking of is way better

@Jay444111: I think yeah the scariest bit was when he expressed interest in having a body. Then the girl was clearly trying to pass off as a human... I think people might have started the chain of events that caused The Terminator to happen.

No! Really! I swear I was talking to a real person! It was just so authentic! It's like... Cleverbot will sometimes be really janky and weird, but sometimes it's so eerily accurate! Like someone comes in every now and then and chats you up.

All it does is just return the responses to questions that it got fed in by users. It's a cool idea, but not intelligent in any way.

as I understand it all it does is keep a log of everyones responses to cleverbot's responses and responds with the most responded response by humans. That's why if you type in song lyrics you may be able to get it to write a song with you line by line because that was the most common response from people when cleverbot started the song. The only way this works however is if there's also a degree of randomness to create new connections and introduce phrases that haven't been responded to yet. In any event it is just replicating the probability of a response represented by human input.

Awesome... pure awesome. It's actually kind of scary that two machines can have such an in depth conversation with each other, if they really are machines. They know they are both machines, yet they have opinions on God...
