I have to give a presentation for the end of the semester in my Modern China class about China's relationship with video games (piracy, internet cafes, knock off consoles, censorship etc) and at the end of the presentation I wanted to include some pictures of Chinese characters from video games hoping my classmates might recognize them and go "Hey I know that person!" So far I can only think of Chun-Li (Street Fighter) and Tracer Tong (Deus Ex). Can anyone else help me out by thinking of some?
Chinese characters in video games
Wei Shen from Sleeping Dogs.
Inspector "Tequila" Yeun from Stranglehold.
I believe Mei Ling from Metal Gear is Chinese even though she was born in Hawaii.
Dynasty Warriors characters.
There's probably a few others I can think of but they're pretty much a rip-off of Bruce Lee.
If you cut out fighting games, you are left with Wei Shen, a Chinese-American. Tequila. The main character from Chinatown wars. Another Chinese-American.
Also, those characters have ties to Hong Kong, rather than mainland China. I believe Chun Li is also from Hong Kong.
And Dynasty Warriors.
We have pretty shitty representation in entertainment media. Still waiting for that Herculese & Amadeus Cho movie, though!
Maybe except for Mei Ling alot of Chinese characters in video games are really good at martial arts.
How about the characters that come from Orient inspired environments, like Jade Empire?
Also, Woozie from San Andreas was cool.
Tekken has a bunch of Chinese characters
Hannah from Battlefield 4.
Funny enough didn't Assassin's Creed China just come out?
But then again you said recognizable characters...
Fei Long from Street Fighter
Google "SNK Chinese characters" and you'll get a list of about 30 characters. Sure, a lot of them were minor, but there's some pretty major ones from King of Fighters and Fatal Fury.

Come out tomorrow; female Chinese protagonist. I'd probably buy it based on that alone even if I wasn't interested in the gameplay o_O
Does Eva from MGS3 count?
no she was American, just working for China.
Err Portal?
Chell's not Chinese, is she?

Yeah, it's hard to think of a case where a Chinese character (pertaining to the plot) is present that is not good at martial arts.
@believer258: Much of Chell's past remains a mystery....so who knows. She is just as likely to be Chinese as anything else I suppose.
I'm not sure if any of the ones mentioned will create that "oh I know his person" reaction from your classmates. But maybe I'm wrong; good luck with your presentation!

Doesn't Portal 2 divulge who her parents are?

Chun-Li is generally depicted as being from mainland China. I think maybe some terrible crap has depicted her as being in/living in Hong Kong, like that turd with Kristin Kreuk, but canonically, she seems to be from the mainland. I think her and Gen are the only non-minor characters from there though. Fei Long and the twins, Yun and Yang, are from Hong Kong. I think Chun is a pretty good answer though, she's certainly one of the most recognisable characters in video games.
But yeah, this thread is a bit eye-opening, really. I'd never really thought about the dearth of Chinese characters in video game roles that don't involve martial arts.
Of course, Giant Bomb do occasionally show Chinese characters in video games, but they need Regina around to read them. HEYOOOO!!
