Poll 4K or 1080p - Which resolution you're currently using right now? (No matter if it's the console or PC gaming) (316 votes)

4K (4096 × 2160) 41%
1080p (1920 x 1080) 59%

Hello

The current resolution I'm using right now is 1080p for PC and console gaming because I couldn't afford a 4K TV and monitor at that moment, even if I buy a PS5 in the near future, I will still use my 1080p TV and monitor.

4k for my Series S and PS5.
1440p for my Series X.

Before anyone asks, the series X is at my desk where I do most of my gaming. The Series S is the family's primary media machine so that's why it's on the higher rez TV. As for the PS5, well Sony for some stupid reason still refuses to acknowledge the existence of 1440p so that's also on the 4k TV for now.

Where's the 1440p 144hz option?

That is where I'm at on PC, with no plans to upgrade.

For me, HDR is way more of a jump than 4K (@55in any way).

1080p on PC. I can run bunch of games well enough in 4K too, but it makes the fans go crazy, so usually I settle for lower.

On PS5, if there’s an option between higher resolution and framerate, I’ve found myself going for latter. That’s probably going to remain the case, until a game comes along that just looks so good in 4K compared to 1080 that I have to pick the higher res.

I have a cheap 5 year old Vizio E series 4k tv that I use for console games, and my cheap computer monitor is 1080p.

I managed to snag an LG OLED a few years ago on a Costco clearance price just as they were swapping out for the next year's model.

I upgraded to a 4K monitor Black Friday 2019 which was a good upgrade to have before working from home every day. Though I find with most games if it does not have a DLSS option I'll run it at 1440p for a stable framerate.

PC

I've been using a 3440x1440 @ 120Hz monitor since 2018. I'll only be i n c r e a s i n g my size and speed from there.

Console

4K TV since 2016. The newest "4K console" I've got though is the PS4 Pro.

got a LG tv a few years back that was 4k when i upgraded my graphics card i hated the yellows in it , the following yr i got a new pc cause the card didn't play nice with the rest of it. i only have 3 hdmi ports and still don't like the yellows in this tv so this past weekend my fiancee and i decided to get new tvs .. so sat those should be here they're samsung so hopefully the yellows are good , it has 4hdmi ports so i can bring my switch back into the bedroom and its a 120 instead of 60 so we'll see if the better refresh rate spoils me or not lol. its a larger size than i'd prefer but its something.

I have a PC that I bought right around the time the new consoles came out. It's hooked up to my TV, a 4K LG OLED, and its become my main source for gaming. Because it's a pretty beefy PC, with a 3070, I try to shoot for high fidelity and 4K, but will pick 1440p at higher fidelity graphics over lower graphics settings at 4K to get a steady 60 fps. With my TV, at the distance I view my TV and with those higher fidelity graphics, I personally feel like the noticeable difference between 4K and 1440p is pretty slight. But, I do start to notice a big difference at 1080p. For example, if I play the RT version of Quake I usually run it at 1080p to get 60 fps, but compared to the 4K and 1440p game I play, the aliasing is much more noticeable for me.

Although my TV is 4k, I still much prefer to play 1080 at 120hz vs 4k 30-60hz, as I'm still only sporting a 980 in my PC and a 2070 super in my Laptop which I haven't really tested too much yet.

Sporting 1440p on my PC, tho

One thousand and eighty peas, both PC and TV. I just don't need the upgrade yet, even with the PS5.

My PC isn't PC enough for more than two Ks at most anyway. I appreciate a good resolution, but it's not a make-or-break for me outside of maybe VR. I'm certainly not against 4K, if I had the money I'd spring for the craziest TV on the market (is it still that 16K Sony one? I don't follow TV tech very closely), it's just going to be a while yet for me.

1440p, 144Hz. It's pretty good for a PC setup. I'll wait a year or two before going 4K on PC. My TV is 4K, but that's more for streaming and 4K blu-rays.

1440p for me. To go higher than that would require me to get a new PC since mine is fairly old and I find it hard to justify spending that kind of money right now. As it is, I can run most newer games that are being released just with reduced settings which is fine for me.

older TVs and monitors that run at 1080p 60hz use to have a terrible input lag. Only some monitor brands like Asus or BenQ use to make models with lower latency 10-15 years ago. The only thing that has problems now outputting 1080p 60hz is the Nintendo Switch :P why ask you ask such a question?? you know what pixel density is??

I mostly play in 1080p, though I put some games with bad UI scaling at 720p to make them more readable from the couch.

But, yeah, I play a decent amount of games in 320x200 too.

I'll probably not upgrade from 1080p until 8K is affordable. Having seen film in 1080p, 4k and 8k, I kinda think the benefits of 4K are pretty marginal, but 8K is pretty much indistinguishable from proper film stock to me.
