If the guys can do 65 minutes on Minerva's Den vs. Lair of the Shadow Broker, I demand one *hell* of a GOTY argument.
Though given how much the crew seems to be favouring Mass Effect 2 so far, it'll be tough for anything to top it. Brad's gonna have to bring his A game for Starcraft 2. :)
The final GOTY argument better be like seventeen hours long.
I think the final deliberations will be somewhere between an hour to 3. If previous years are any indication anyway.
Mass Effect 2 does seem like a shoe in. And we know Star Craft 2 won't win because Brad said so on the last bombcast.
Seeing as how the platform-only talks have been the shortest of all the GOTY talks so far, I wouldn't hold my breath. Either way, I'd rather hear them talk about weird categories than GOTY. Last year they spent an hour debating between Uncharted 2 and Batman, which was fun but got pretty stagnant near the end.
I'd say the final 3 are Starcraft 2, Mass Effect 2 and Pac-Man. Reach, Bayonetta and AssBro are also possibilities.
I'm kinda peeved that they spent 65 minutes on Minerva's Den vs. Shadow Broker and then 5 on Pac-Man vs. Limbo vs. Super Meat Boy vs. VVVVVV. It's like they shot their load on the previous segment and just threw that one away even though it's probably three of the top ten games of the year. I can't believe they ceded Limbo like that despite two people thinking it was the best downloadable of the year. (4 if you count Alex and Drew's lists!)
Great to see VVVVVV getting some love though. That was my GOTY.
It's just refreshing to see games win that aren't red dead. dont get me wrong i really liked my time with red dead, but its already won game of the year twice on different occasions, and on one website best third person shooter! like really? best third person shooter over games like vanquish? i haven't even played vanquish and i think its a better third person shooter over red dead
Eh, you can't complain about Red Dead winning everywhere if Mass Effect 2 wins. That game is picking up awards like crazy too. Giant Bomb isn't exactly breaking the mold here if it comes down to Starcraft 2 vs. Mass Effect 2. The crew liked Red Dead a lot too with the exception of Jeff.
You are crazy. I think the length of these is fine. I can't sit and listen to these guys for that long at once.
I think they'll come to a general consensus on the GOTY. I can imagine the GOTY podcast ending with us hearing Jeff flip out his pocket knife, stab Dave's envelope and announce the GOTY as Amnesia: The Dark Decent before laughing/screaming maniacally.
I think the real battle for the winner will be best multiplatform game. I mean the winner of that WILL win GOTY automtically. Its kind of anti climax compared to the last two years of ps3 exclusive vs multiplatform
Well, if they can basically run in circles with the same arguments over and over again about two $10 pieces of content, imagine what they could do with actual games!
Brad: Self-contained story blah blah
Vinny: Contribute to the actual game blah blah
Brad: But it's all just combat except for the end blah blah
The game of the year podcast will stalemate, and they'll be forced to open Dave's note, inside which is a single bullet to go with one of the 4 revolvers taped under each of their chairs. It will then go on the road while they look for a place to bury Brad after Jeff finally snaps and takes him out. There will be harrowing encounters with the other Whiskey office members, escapes from the police, and Weekend at Bernie's style antics when they have to give John Vignocchi a ride. In the end, the game of they year will be "Hiding the Evidence of your Heinous Crime and also a Dead Body 2010".
Spoiler, the winner is...
" Spoiler, the winner is...CUH-RRAAAZY!"Mass Effect 2, it was shown on the day 6 video that was accidentally posted but has been taken down. It probably won't be a long argument, the majority of it will be Brad's speech about Starcraft that will be shot down when he's done. Ryan's 100% for Mass Effect 2, since Jeff didn't play Red Dead he probably won't allow it to win so he's most likely for Mass Effect 2, without Starcraft Brad's will probably be 100% behind Mass Effect 2 and Vinny will just go with it.
As I was listening to the DLC portion of the podcast, I wanted Ryan or Jeff to just yell "UNDEAD NIGHTMARE WINS. NEXT."
Something like this." As boring and predictable as it is, it's just gonna be a 5 minute thing where they list off some games, say Mass Effect 2 then just all go "yup" and done. "
It will be Mass Effect 2 with runners up Bayonetta and Starcraft 2. Or maybe Bayonetta and ME2 as a runner up. RDR will definitely not be considered because Jeff doesn't like it (reasons: "It's fucking boring, old guns suck, he's a cowboy").
" Jeff said he'd be willing to support SC2 and Brad said he'd keep that in mind, so there's still a chance that SC2 will at least be in a toss-up. "Man, how awesome of a plot twist would it be if after their to-the-death arguments these past two podcasts (thought I guess day 2 was more Brad VS Vinny), Brad and Jeff formed an alliance to pull SC2 into GOTY contention.

They're under no obligation to do this :< for all we know it'll be a quick jaunt through the line up, a list of their favorite moments from all games and a quick run through vote :3
We might get to Metal Gear Solid 4 vs. Grand Theft Auto 4 time length though
i really do hope it's a long one. also, i think Ass Bro has a good chance of at least making it to the top 3
Ryan's favorite game was AC brotherhood, mass effect & RDR were his top 3.
Brad will have SC2 at #1 and I suspect RDR in his top 3.
Vinny will have ME2 at #1 and I'm 50/50 on RDR in his top 3.
Jeff will have ME2 at #1 and I suspect SC2 in his top 3.
I wanna see Ryan Defend ACb to the end, and then Brad countering with SC2. Also some RDR talk and of course ME2. This was a dope year for games!
"Fallout is not really good enough to be GOTY. Guess theres' Brotherhood but that's kinda the same case as Fallout."Brotherhood "not really good enough to be GOTY"?
In what way is it not "good enough"? The only reason I wouldn't consider Fallout to be amongst the top games of the year is because of its mountain of bugs.
Still pissed at some of the things they had to say about Bioshock 2, and a little more pissed about the naysaying of Minerva's Den by someone who didn't play it solely because they didn't like one particular aspect of the main game. Then again, I thoroughly enjoyed that game, to the point of being able to say WITH CONFIDENCE that it's better than its predecessor.
As for the GOTY discussions, I'm sure it'll be an interesting one.
I hate it when people try to win an argument not by persuasion or merit but by simply refusing to concede until their opponent caves from exhaustion. Brad is the only one batting for Minerva's Den and he manages to brow beat the rest of the crew into submission.
