The Fateless One was a mortal, of the Human or Alfar races, who died, and then was recreated and brought back to life by the power of the Well of Souls created by Fomorous Hugues. Although he or she has lost all their memories of their original life, being brought back to life after their death means they have worked around fate itself, and now have no destiny to speak of; their status as Fateless means that they can change the threads of destiny, with sword, stealth, sorcery, or a mysterious power unique to them, known as the Reckoning. Free to carve their own path, the Fateless One could choose to defend Amalur from the murderous Tuatha Deohn, or they could choose to cover it in darkness forever...
