Well, I think this is a good thing. Sure, it won't be that hard for people to cheat the system but at least the awareness that adderall abuse (or other drugs, whatever) is being enforced as "this is not a smart thing to do" so that maybe some people will think twice when their buddies tell them it's a good idea.

There are far more dangerous substances abused, but that doesn't mean this should just be viewed as ok. They've done the best they can with the situation imo.

@austin_walker: are you saying Scott Steiner is a witcher?

@thatpinguino: This was brilliant. Would love to see a guy like Sneaky fail a drug test and proudly claim that he was on steroids. :D

Kinda already had that situation at least once in tennis. Sesil Karatancheva. Promising Bulgarian 15 year old who managed to charge her way deep into Roland Garros (this sentence isn't as dark as you think it is...) only for suspicious levels of testosterone to be found in her bloodstream. Her excuse? "Oh, I had a miscarriage." Which given her age felt somehow worse. Landed a 2 year ban and hasn't been the same player since.

A miscarriage caused her blood to contain nandrolone metabolites? Weird.

And it's a good thing they're at least starting to test in esports. People have been abusing adhd medication since forever.

Much like baseball, prepare to see the the amount of ADHD diagnosed competitors rise sharply.

Or cycling, where there's somehow an abnormal amount of asthma sufferers who really need those inhalers which just happen to also contain steroids.

Not the kind of steroids they generally care about though. They're cortico steroids, not anabolics. If inhalers contained stanozolol or whatever your average asthmatic would probably look quite different.

If you can make money doing something it deserves to be televised, advertised, etc. But lets be clear 'gaming' is not a sport. And, yeah, chess is not a sport either - sorry not sorry. And competitive Scrabble is not a sport by the same definition.

I don't think it is too much to ask that, "a sport", is an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess It is not too much to ask becuase I don't think we serve anyone well by pretending a thing that don't require athletic activity with physical prowess is not the same as something that does. Sport either means something definable or it doesn't and if we get to the point where gaming is a sport all mental activities from reading to writing is a sport too - madness.

This issue of the meaning of a word is not going away in regards to what is or isnt a sport . You are never going to get the average person or even the average gamer to say gaming is a sport. One of these things is not like the others, and that is DotA not fitting in with football, pole vaulting and running.

Gaming is no more of a sport than defending a thesis in front of a panel of professors for a PhD is a sport. You might sweat and expend mental powers, but it is NOT A SPORT.

I hope if they're going to ban marijuana in countries where it's legal, that they also ban alcohol and nicotine.

You must be real fun at parties.

This article literally has nothing to do with that. If Austin had used their shorter name ESL (as most people refer to them), you wouldn't have said anything because you wouldn't have seen the word sports in the title.
