    The Diabolical Box

Dr. Schrader is the reason Professor Layton and Luke start on the trail of the Elysian Box in the beginning of Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box. He had been trying to find out the secrets of the Elysian Box that supposedly kills anyone who opens it. Upon finally finding the box he sends Professor Layton a letter explaining his situation. After Layton does not hear from him for some time, he and Luke go to investigate. Upon their arrival at Dr. Schrader's apartment they find him dead with the window open and the Elysian Box nowhere to be seen.

It is later revealed that Dr. Schrader is not dead and has miraculously recovered.

    The Unwound Future

In order to prove to Professor Layton and Luke that they've arrived in the future, Future Luke sends a letter guiding the duo to Green Hospital. There, they find a dramatically aged Dr. Schrader in a hospital room.  The doctor provides them with the keys to the Laytonmobile, which contains another guiding letter from Future Luke.
