Given that Team Ninja worked on Other M, this seems like an appropriate nod to that work. The stage and set-pieces both reference the Ridley boss battle from the game. As far as I know, this might be the only all-new stage not seen in any of the previous DOA titles.

Samus Aran confirmed to appear in DOA: Dimensions!

When the hell is Metroid Dread coming out? Been waiting years for that! Prime 3 even mentioned it! (Though I bet that was a joke).
Lovely stage, hope the fireballing isn't too interruptive or can be put to non damaging.
If Nintendo is any kind of smart, they'll put Samus in.
If Nintendo is any kind of smart they won't put her in considering how badly they (Team Ninja) fucked the Samus character up." Lovely stage, hope the fireballing isn't too interruptive or can be put to non damaging. If Nintendo is any kind of smart, they'll put Samus in. "

I loved Other M and think it was a positive growth in Samus her character.
But that's for another topic really.
I just want to see Samus kick ass, I mean we had Link in Soul Calibur!
" Yes. Lets make her into an even shittier character by putting her in DOA. "Way to read the first sentence, bro.
I'm just curious. How many people itt have actually played a DOA game? Why would it excite you to have Samus involved with some broken ass infinite juggles bullshit that's been irrelevant for almost a decade. Why put Samus a stone's throw away from titty bouncing beach vollyball? Is this just the spirit of solidarity, you like other M so you support some fighting IP you never played on principle? Hell even Tekken players look down on DOA. If you wanna see Samus bouncing her shit around in a fighter, play Brawl. Hopefully Nintendo has a bit of sense here and the stage is the full extent of the crosspollination.
Sure, Team Ninja can go ahead and put Samus in the game....just don't let Sakamoto have any input. If that were the case, she would cry and freak out for 5 minutes everytime she had to fight in that Metroid-themed level with Ridley in it. Or even "better", she'd only freak out SOMETIMES.
But then, I'm not a hyper-competitive fighting game savant, so hey. Still, this makes it more likely that I'd buy DOA over SSFIV. (Though my general lack of enjoyment of SSFIV on consoles is also contributing to that.)
Why put Samus in the stage if she's playable? The stage is in there as a nod to their last game. And I think Nintendo had the good sense to leave it at that. At the very best, Kasumi or someone has a Zero Suit costume. That's as far as it goes. I'd put money down." Samus is probaly in the game. Why just leave it at the stage? "
I think a Zero Suit Samus jiggling around in DOA would be the final nail in the Metroid coffin. When is Nintendo going to realize that if you don't want to do a 3D Metroid game you let the Americans handle it.
I really liked it when Metroid Prime was the the most recent Metroid game. The franchise was pure as the driven snow. Lots of high quality iterations, tasteful appearances in other games...
And then MP2 had a light/dark mechanic. Things have just been going downhill from there.
In all seriousness, I kind of miss the days when Nintendo was more protective of their brand and IPs. Sure it was sometimes annoying, but at least you didn't have to see horrible things like this.
AND YES I KNOW THAT THERE WAS A LEGEND OF ZELDA BREAKFAST CEREAL.
yeah I imagine that Kasumi or one of the blondes are going to have an alternate zero suit outfit.
thankfully.
wasn't there a zero suit costume in Fatal Frame 4? Tecmo did that, right? strange.
" yeah I imagine that Kasumi or one of the blondes are going to have an alternate zero suit outfit. thankfully. wasn't there a zero suit costume in Fatal Frame 4? Tecmo did that, right? strange. "There were at least a couple of Nintendo-themed costumes in Fatal Frame IV. Tecmo and Grasshopper developed it, but Nintendo published it. I'm not sure how that deal came about.
" @ryanwho: No love for Killer Instinct? HATERS GONNA HATE! "Killer Instinct capitalized on the trends of fighting games at the time better than any other game. It did the best version of ridiculous blood spill and retarded long combo strings and "what the hell can we get away with making into a character" with Raptors and Meat and all that wacky shit. But man, that game is like a tie die teashirt, its such a product of the time.

" @MrCroftLoverThis entire debate was resolved months ago. It was confirmed that Samus has no part in the game beyond her cameo in the Metroid-themed stage.@TaliciaDragonsong said:This and also seeing how team ninja deals with their female characters, i'd rather Samus keep her suit on and not be a playable character "If Nintendo is any kind of smart they won't put her in considering how badly they (Team Ninja) fucked the Samus character up." " @MrCroftLoverTheir characters perhaps, not guest characters (far, as, I, know)@TaliciaDragonsong said:This and also seeing how team ninja deals with their female characters, i'd rather Samus keep her suit on and not be a playable character "If Nintendo is any kind of smart they won't put her in considering how badly they (Team Ninja) fucked the Samus character up." Nicole-458 says hi.
Also, I'm pretty sure that Nintendo has final say in it and would understand fans want her in her suit, using some of those abilities perhaps for moves.
And if not, hey then we all know Nintendo has forsaken her and is abusing her for a sex puss.
Then we can go mental.
I can't believe you of all people would think this was a good idea. You told me before that you preferred realistic female characters in games. Team Ninja are not known for their realistic characters." @Yanngc33 said:

Zero Suit has always been like that, only the new generations gave it more...form.
There's quite a difference between Samus in Brawl and the ladies of DOA wiggling their roundies in volleyball games.
And yes, I support realistic characters but like you said "Team Ninja are not known for their realistic characters".
It all depends on the game, I can't see Master Chief or Samus (or most other icons besides perhaps Marcus from Gears) in Mortal Kombat, but I can certainly see them in a game like Soul Calibur, fits more with the style (lets not discuss the story, I mean, Star Wars chars in SC was too much) and in case of a guest character they make way more sense.
Nintendo wouldn't wanna see any of their icons been torn in half, but they won't shy from a brawl with their more realistic characters I think.
Which is also why I said keep her suit on, that's the character, no need for a Ivy wannabe with a laser whip.
I'm just really liking the suggestion of Samus in a fighter, like Link before her in Soul Calibur, never said I wanted to see her get butchered by Nintendo.
Because that's the last thing I would want for Samus.
There is a difference between "strong female character" and "strong character who is technically female but could otherwise be either gender."
So after having played some online matches on the Metroid stage, the environmental effects really aren't all that crazy. Getting knocked off the platform results in damage taken from Ridley's grinding you against the wall, but then he throws you back on the platform to continue fighting. It's not an instant K.O. ring out as the trailer might suggest. His fireballs are also fairly infrequent, though you still need to watch out for them since they can do damage and knock you out of a combo.
No way to turn it off?
Especially on the harder settings it would suck to get a combo or streak ended by a nice big fireball to the face!
@Hailinel: No way to turn it off? Especially on the harder settings it would suck to get a combo or streak ended by a nice big fireball to the face!Nope. The only option appears to be dodge out of the way to avoid getting hit. I'm not sure if the fireballls can be guarded against or not yet. (Fortunately, my opponents were the ones that got hit. :P)
@TaliciaDragonsong said:So is the game itself any good? How's it for just singleplayer? No one around here owns a 3DS besides me so if the singleplayer options are limited it'll be a waste to buy it full price.@Hailinel: No way to turn it off?
