    Blood from the darkspawn plays an important role in the history of the Grey Wardens. Primarily it is used in the Joining ceremony to infuse Grey Wardens with strength; but only at a great cost. It allows them to detect and listen in on the Darkspawn horde but slowly drives them mad. In the end it will be too much to bear and the Grey Warden will travel to the Deep Roads to do battle with the Darkspawn one last time. Such is the power and curse given to Grey Wardens by consuming Darkspawn blood.
