Oh hey, hello, hi. Somehow the end of 2022 is already approaching, which means it’s time for one of my favorite annual traditions: sifting through and showcasing my favorite video game music of the year. While I don’t know that 2022 was a banner year for video game soundtracks, I was reminded for the umpteenth time while putting this list together just how much good video game music exists ever...

Well, this is my first blog post after being a member of this site since 2011. Figured it's about time I do a thing. I played a few games this year, very few of them FROM this year, in fact. Reason is that I have a launch PS4 that doesn't run the newer games well, a Switch and until recently, a PC I built in 2012 that couldn't even run Gal Gun 2.*gasp* Hopefully, with my new PC and 3080, that'l...

An Incomplete Japanese dream cast for Mass Effect “Shepard vs. Reapers” Trilogy Chapter One Crimson Eyes Verse Two Representatives at the Capital Ah, attempting to do some creative work in a cosmopolitan city. Nothing makes one aware of the so-called classes they are in like that. Take a lowly clerk like yours truly for example, when they think about voice cast, the most they can do is humble b...

Note: The following article contains moderate spoilers for 20th Century Food Court and SHENZHEN I/O. Computers took over the world because they are the polymorphic machine. Other appliances are built to carry out a limited number of functions, usually one. They separate cotton from its seeds, they wash and dry clothes, they ventilate a building, etc. A computer is a calculator and a typewriter...

In all the excitement of Game of the Year season I forgot I still had a regular column to maintain. Make sure to keep your columns regular, everyone, especially with all that high-in-carbs Christmas food. Anyway, Record of Lodoss War is something I've bumped into a few times over the years: like the many novels of Ed Greenword or R. A. Salvatore set in the Forgotten Realms D&D campaign setting,...

I’ve always voted in the GB Community GOTY poll, but have never actually posted my own list. Partly that’s because I’ve rarely had ten games that I’ve felt that good about in a single year (not that these things actually need to have exactly ten games), and I’ve also usually felt like I had little to add to the discussion, and that there were too many things I had never gotten around to playing...

An Incomplete Japanese dream cast for Mass Effect “Shepard vs. Reapers” Trilogy This is something that took its roots in my mind since early 2017. Then it grew into something closer to what it is now in 2018. It’s just that yours truly kept finding excuses to not write it until now, after two blogs regarding Japanese actors. A shout-out to Em Marko and Jackson Taylor of Great Gundam Project fam...

Game : Splashteam 's Tinykin . Release Month : August. Quick Look : Here (Dan / Grubb). Started : 07/12. Completed : 08/12. It's remarkable that in the 21 years since Pikmin was released on GameCube, it has only ever seen a handful of imitators and has only been bettered just once (its immediate sequel, Pikmin 2 ). There are certainly games that existed prior and since that have you herding lar...

I think by now it's safe to say Marvel Snap is going to be one of my most obsessed-over games of the year. I'm not usually into deck builders or lane-based games, but for whatever reason, I'm both wildly entertained and actually pretty okay at Snappin'. I think it's mostly that you can build and play a viable deck from the get-go throughout the game's highest tiers that really appeals to me. Su...

Promises made, promises kept. For now. This week I'll be covering the first two PC Engine games to tumble into this world, both of which arrived at launch. Here we go. *produces Charlie Day conspiracy board* Bikkuriman World is a reskin of Wonder Boy in Monster Land , which is the second game in the Wonder B...

Game : Rose-engine 's Signalis . Release Month : October. Quick Look : Here (Jess / Grubb). Started : 05/12. Completed : 06/12. Signalis is the type of game where you just have to sit back in your chair with your head in your hands once it's through to take in everything you just witnessed. I have other nuggets of approbation for the game too, but the first and foremost is just that wave of sty...

To say the Final Fantasy VII Remake was divisive would be underselling it quite a bit, I think. Even to this day, I feel like a lot of people are really unsure what to make of it. I don't see enough discussion around the meta-narrative and what it says about gaming. Final Fantasy VII grapples with the game's identity and reason for existing in a way I honestly did not expect it to. Fans clamour...

Going to have to punt this one into 2023, along with Trails from Zero. A month is not gonna be enough. It's that dreaded time again: Game of the Year season has descended upon us like so many enormous prehistoric locusts (man, was Jurassic World: Dominion not a great movie) and we can do naught but cover our heads and run indoors until the swarm has safely passed. As Giant Bomb is gearing up fo...

Game : Finji 's Tunic . Release Month : March. Quick Look : Here (Jan / Bakalar). Started : 02/12. Completed : 04/12. Man, if you asked me before 2022 started which, between an Indie Zelda -like with a cute little fox guy protagonist or the one Souls game from that year, was going to give me the most trouble with its boss fights, I probably would've lost money on that bet. Or maybe not, since I...

I'm A Myst Weirdo And Thought Scorn Was "Okay" You might be shocked to know I did not hate this puzzle. (i.e., I give this a 6/10) I'm too late to join the Giant Bomb Game Pass Game Club, but I finally played Scorn and have some thoughts to share. I gravitated towards the game thanks to its short playtime, which is increasingly becoming an asset with my advancing age. I was also intrigued by it...

It's going to get a bit mainstream for the next few entries of Indie Game of the Week, as I've availed myself of Microsoft's PC Game Pass (they apparently give it away with new PCs, who knew?) for the sake of some GOTY catch-up this month. That also means catching up with some of the bigger Indies of the past couple years, including Witch Beam 's well-regarded Unpacking from 2021. Described as...

Hello bombardinos. Bombfriends? Bombos? What do we call each other anymore? Fandom wiki editors? It's been a bit, and I'd like to apologize. I'd also like to apologize because this absolutely isn't a dubious horror blog. Haven't had the time to give Countdown Vampires the write up it deserves, but now that I'm currently "done" with the Tower of Dubious Horror games (at least, I'm taking a break...

I'm a simple man. I see milk on the menu, I might order it. Hi! Again! Several years ago, when the hills were young, I started NamCompendium . My goal was, and remains, an exploration of the entire output of Namco . That is not done! It will surprise likely zero folks reading this that the last few years have not gone entirely to chalk for me, as they likely have not for the readers either. Pla...

God knows how many games yours truly picked up, and mostly dropped, after hearing someone mentioned playing them on podcasts. My encounter of Parquet did star...
