Every year, we all gather to make our contractually obligated “Top 10 Games of the Year” lists. Also every year, many of us play well more than 10 video games. So what of the rest of them? The ones that didn’t make the elite 10? They’re games too! Thus, as I’ve done for a number of years now, here’s my way of speaking to those other games, in the form of ranking all the games from 2023 I played...

I was in two minds about whether to write this. The question of whether Halo Infinite is now a professional, finished game is moot. Of course, it's not; it's Halo Infinite. It's like asking whether the Sun comes out at night now. But that's not why I had misgivings about this blog; what held me back were the precise bumps and scratches that never buff off of Infinite. There's the danger that in...

One week into January is a good time for contrition I've found, since most of us have already broken any and all New Year's Resolutions we'd optimistically set ourselves. In my case, having long since abandoned any pretensions towards self-improvement, this sheepishness is instead aimed squarely at a fellow Bomblogger: one Mr. @arbitrarywater . See, the stand-up duder in question gifted me this...

Soldier: 76 joins Tracer and Reaper as the third Overwatch character in my Video Game Hall of Fame. Next week's character will be a Nintendo favorite.

Preamble (i.e., What Does It Take For A Video Game To Be A "Sicko Game?") This sure is a video game that was written by an adult. What is the "sicko game?" With people flippantly calling Lethal Company 2023's best "meme game" and RoboCop: Rogue City the previous year's best "B-game," fringe gaming terms and labels are starting to shape up and take more definite and absolute qualifications. But...

Today, let's discuss the roots of a gameplay mechanic that has been beloved by strategists and stealth players for decades: Trap-laying. This innovation adds an extra layer of strategy to gameplay and can create intense, suspenseful moments where you carefully set up a plan and hope that it executes properly based on what the enemy or another player does. While some games center around this mec...

I wouldn't steal a car, but I would download a copyrighted picture of one and Photoshop it. Ah, another year of making dumb Giant Bomb-related content, and some non-Giant Bomb-related content too (remember this for later). Last year , my list consisted of top 10 tweets according to Twitter Analytics, but I changed it up this year because I realized that the site ranks top tweets by impressions....

2023 was perhaps one of the best years in a long time with both major and minor releases dotting the calendar. From quality remakes to sequels to existing franchises the results of post pandemic expanded development finally show through. There were so many quality games released this year that it was impossible to make time to play them all. Baldur's Gate 3, Spider Man 2, Jedi Survivor, Street...

Alan Wake II without much reservation. My only knock on the game would be that it isn't any fun to play on Normal difficulty, but then I found Story mode to be challenging enough on its own (I still died to a boss or two, and was still running out of flashlight charges sometimes) so that's more of an ego thing. More accurately I'd say I just don't think the combat, particularly the bosses, is d...

People are saying that 2023 is one of the greatest years for games in recent memory. I’m not sure I agree. I didn’t play some of the biggest games like Baldur’s Gate 3 or Starfield and maybe I would have loved those but I did fall off some of the other big releases not mentioned before like Armored Core VI (I liked it and will go back to it) and Like a Dragon: Ishin! (I like it but it’s no Yaku...

I have a bit of a tradition where I make New Years resolutions around gaming every year. It's very stupid and I rarely keep them but why stop now? This year I am going to keep them pretty simple. 1) Focus less on video games. Games are probably always going to be my major hobby and consume a fair amount of my time and energy, but I'd like to continue scaling that back in 2024. I just want to fo...

On a cold December night, a lone gamer looks to the infinite wisdom of the heavens. His forehead glowing with IQ, the stars realign before him, breaking from the ancient mundane constellations of hunters and bears to reform as terrifying vampires and legendary pinball machines. The time has come for my end-of-year article where I describe the most flooring titles I played for the first time in...

Well well well. It's been a minute, you sexy thing, you. How you doin'? You ready to get your mental guts churned by my sweet, sweet word lovin'? You'd better be, because I'm Sparky_Buzzsaw and you're about to cram a whole bunch of me into your brain cavity. While Giant Bomb's community-focused side of things is slowly atrophying, I still have a lot of love for this place and the many, many fri...

I went back to read my top 10 from last year to refresh myself and found it amusing that the first line mentioned how the general consensus from those I was getting my gaming discussion from was that it had been a dire year for games from the actual game release perspective and how outside of that opinion I felt. This year is actually the opposite with many ready to mark this 2023 as one of gam...

Let's first talk about the games I currently play and how they were this year. DOTA 2.: Big changes this year and for the better. The map is bigger, most stuff to do on the map, and great stuff all around Marvel Snap: Also good updates for the UI for PC and the new cards made this fun to play all year for me again Overwatch 2: Not enough changes since it came out. I don't care about the PV. Som...
