Guess what it's still doing? That's right, it's raining! But don't work, the weekend will be nice since I'm on-call and can't enjoy it. Entertainment Death Wish(2018) - I went into this not expecting much and I think it delivered on my expectations. Having seen the original and generally not liking remakes that is a good rating for me. The hardest part of the movie was to accept Bruce Willis as...

Welcome to the latest episode of "let's clear out some DRM-free games that have been sitting on my desktop for long enough", a feature-within-a-feature here on Indie Game of the Week. Puzzle Puppers is one of those Indie puzzle games that quite obviously began as a mobile game; it's not so much the basic controls and interface that gives this away but the sort of simple appeal of the aesthetic,...

Hi duders! It's been some time, but I'm back with another video game related blog thanks to a burst of inspiration - this time, from Mass Effect (No spoilers, don't worry) There was a piece of music floating around in my head, but I couldn’t identify it right away. A few seconds later it hit me: it was music from Mass Effect. I immediately opened Youtube and started up my favorite ME soundtrack...

In Part IV, I said there were two significant events that would change the fortunes of the Sega Mega Drive and Genesis in the November of 1990. The first and the most significant detriment to Sega's 16-bit console - though one could argue that it inspired a stronger sense of competition - was the debut of Nintendo's Super Famicom in Japan. The SNES/SFC would go on to have a very contentious rel...

Bienvenidos a Switch City, everybody! For the person out there anxiously awaiting this blog, I apologize once again for the lateness. Between my normal duties and a crippling addiction to XCOM 2 , I just haven't had time to get into something new on the Switch. It was only a few days ago that I picked up my next game, Enter the Gungeon . Given the short time I've spent with it, and the nature o...

Despite its evocative title, the Assassin's Creed series may be more about movement and platforming than it is about elegantly planting blades into jugulars. While these games have a prominent combat system, the acts of getting to and from the combat, and all diversions from it, have you hot-footing it across rooftops and dashing through the open streets. Even the fights themselves are often a...

No intro this week, because I accidentally wrote too many words for this week's Addenda section. My bad. I should really look into ways to keep this blog shorter, as it ends up eating most of my Saturday the way it is now. Still, I refuse to make my Yakuza 5 breakdowns any less expansive than the game itself, and I don't think separate TV/Movie review blogs will necessarily play (so to speak) o...

Metal Gear Rising Revengeance Resident Evil 4 (PC) Resident Evil 4 is the game that I have completed more than any other game, on my PS2 memory card I have at least 18 distinct saves of completed runs. I haven't played the game since the Wii version came out when I played the village section again. Even after all of this I still managed to forget some of the later sequences. The game is a maste...

Less a full game, more a teaser for what's to come, The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit introduces the next setting and potentially a few of the characters from the upcoming Life is Strange 2 , due to be released in a couple of months from the time this blog goes up. It's a completely free adventure game too, which as far as short-form interactive advertisements go is definitely my preferr...

Guess what we're getting? More rain. It's like it's spring all over again. Entertainment Lost in Space: Season 1 - I thought this was good, not sure what some people had against this. The only issues I had with it was it felt as if thought they pushed the plot too far, too fast just to get to the place they wanted to end the season on and I don't care for where they left the last episode off at...

The SNES Classic had a sterling assortment of games from Nintendo's 16-bit star console, but it's hardly all that system has to offer a modern audience. In each installment of this fortnightly feature, I judge two games for their suitability for a Classic successor based on four criteria, with the ultimate goal of assembling another collection of 25 SNES games that not only shine as brightly as...

Welcome to “Gaming Memories,” a blog series where I reminisce about my favorite video games . I will slowly but surely get to every game on the list, and speak to why each holds a special place in my heart. That not only means I’ll talk about why I think each is a great game that speaks to my tastes, but also where and how it affected me in a larger context. I hope you enjoy, and thanks for rea...

You know what goes well together? I don't but I know it's not heat and rain showers. Yuck. Entertainment Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee - Rewatching the latest season has been good. The show is funny but also deep at times. It's interesting to watch the inner-workings of two comedians. Justice League - The first hour was a drag. The second hour was ok. Note: This article contains major spoilers for Halo Legends and Halo 3. In the prehistoric era of early 2010, Bungie, the creator of one of the most influential shooters and sci-fi series to exist in games, were about to give one last hurrah to their absurdly popular property before jettisoning it for good. But 343 Industries, the inheritor of Halo, were just revving up. They were to be the Hum...

From the daily series of reminders of just how old we all are comes the news that Giant Bomb turned ten years old this week, if you consider a very specific definition of what Giant Bomb is. There's a lot of nostalgia wrapped up in those ten years, and Rorie and the editorial team have done a fine job curating the highlights in the site's anniversary round-up here. I've been trying to think of...

When Prey's DLC, Mooncrash, was announced (and simultaneously released) at E3 this year, I was a bit skeptical. After all the teases about the moon, I was really excited for more Prey. I loved Prey last year, and as more time has passed, I only find myself thinking more fondly of it. But the thing I loved most about Prey was the universe, the lore, story, themes, characters, etc. Actually playi...

(Editor's note: There's not a lot of excuses that can cover for as long a gap as the one there has been in this project, but death in the family is probably one of them. It is now live on NamCompendium.com, and I decided that I might as well put out somethi...
