[This is the ninth entry in a countdown of the best Ridge Racer games. I recommend you read the introduction before reading this; it includes a brief history of the series and links for each entry.] Ridge Racer 2 - Sony PlayStation Portable, 2006 What's Old is New Again This is a bit of a weird one. Depending on what you expect from a sequel, Ridge Racer 2 can be considered a disappointment: it...

I recently found myself with a moderate amount of time to kill and having been swayed by the tales my girlfriend had shared from her time in Stardew Valley I wanted to jump back in myself. I'd played a little at launch on PC (Although hadn't even finished a single year of gameplay) and hadn't tried the game after any of the many updates, so I picked up a second copy on Switch and started from s...

Editor's Note: I know now what I must do for this year's Community Endurance Run. May you all one day forgive me for what I must do. --------------------------------------------- *digs self out of a pile of Namco game cartridges* Hi there! I was in a helicopter once. It's true! This year's Giant Bomb Community Endurance Run is less than three months hence! It was a treat getting back into the s...

FINALLY, IT'S HERE Welcome everyone to the...holy shit, I've been doing this unofficial poll for about 7 years now? That's insane. People have grown up, gotten jobs, lost jobs, graduated, dropped out, found love, lost it, joined the forum, abandoned the forum...it's been a heck of a ride. Don't know if I'll have the energy to do this one more year but no one else stepped up so here I am. This y...

Welcome to the Bucketlog! It's going to be 2019's year-long blog series, focusing on games I've been meaning to play since forever. I've put together a list derived from a mix of systems, genres, and vintages because it's starting to look like 2019 might be the first "lean" year for games in a spell (though time will tell whether that pans out to be true) and I figured this would be a fine oppo...

Well I originally planned to have this thing done in the first two weeks of the new year then a bout of procrastination followed by dose of the wonderful rhythm game Cytus 2 resulted me putting this off for another several weeks. Anyways hope you enjoy the list! Games that came out before 2018 that I played in 2019: Assassin’s Creed: Origins - I played maybe the first 10 hours of this game in 2...

Another year in the books, and another year of films behind us. Thanks to the terrible business plan of Moviepass, I saw a lot of smaller films in theaters (before they got millions of dollars in debt and changed the plan). When putting this list together, there were a lot of movies I had to cut that could’ve been here. And in a few years, who knows what this list would look like. There are sti...

Ben and Rorie hinted in the last episode of UPF that there might be a Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition Quick Look on the horizon. If so, it will be the first Giant Bomb video feature to acknowledge Bandai Namco's long-going Tales franchise. Given the average Giant Bomb visitor might not know too much about the series, I thought I'd throw together a little fact-list: Giant Bomb: The Home of...

Hiya folk! So this isn't the most timely of blogs, but for the past year or two, I thought about writing a blog that highlights some of my personal favorite Giant Bomb moments and videos from that given year. While Nuke.com is a great anime site, it can be hard to uncover those hidden gems and standout episodes, series, and playthroughs, especially when you go back a few years. This has been do...

This frickin' guy Deep Listens is a gaming podcast series I'm recording with a few of my friends. Every two weeks we pick and play a new game and then discuss it from a literary, philosophical, and game design perspective. Its kind of like a book club for video games. We try to dig as deep as we can on an individual game every episode so check it out! In this episode Gino, Chris " @zombiepie "...

The day after a tense and expensive dentist's visit you want something that will help you unwind. I don't think Neon Prism , which looked to be one of those chill action-puzzle games with an EDM soundtrack and a fluorescent abstract aesthetic, was what I was looking for. The game's easy enough to describe: you are some kind of blue neon space croissant, tasked with making it to a blue goal circ...

Look at all the anime people. I love them. Kingdom Hearts is...important to me. The games are fun to play, the story is fantastic, and I love almost every character a great deal (except like, Vexen. ew). If one thing has formed me into the person I am today, Kingdom Hearts is it; once it came into my life, it infiltrated my being and...well, maybe I should start at the beginning. My first intro...

I enjoy puzzle games, usually puzzle games that involve moving around in a 3D space. Portal was a nice surprise on the Orange Box, I was still in my teens and not really plugged into the games media at the time so I knew nothing about it when I started to play. The writing fell a little falt on my teenage ears but I enjoyed the puzzles. I played and enjoyed Portal 2 but then took a pretty big b...

Welcome to “Gaming Memories,” a blog series where I reminisce about my favorite video games . I will slowly but surely get to every game on the list, and speak to why each holds a special place in my heart. That not only means I’ll talk about why I think each is a great game that speaks to my tastes, but also where and how it affected me in a larger context. I hope you enjoy, and thanks for rea...

If you're unaware, Giant Bomb (well, Rorie) recently posted the community's top 500 games of 2018 . If nothing else it ably demonstrates that God of War was by far and away the most popular game of last year, doubly surprising for a system exclusive, but it also highlights what a diverse year of releases it was. According to Rorie, the poll they put forth to the community saw over 1100 unique g...

Whether by design or by coincidence, Fullbright brings us another detective ghost story as players are expected to piece together a mystery in an environment devoid of people but full of contextual clues. Tacoma is set on the space station of the same name - a relatively unimportant refuelling and cargo delivery waypoint to the other orbiting stations owned by the conglomerate Venturis Technolo...

Xevious December 1982 (Arcade, Japan) 1982 was a banner year for Namco, and I've endeavored to make the case that it represented the close of a golden age for the company. What better way to put a capstone on that year, than release one more barn burner? Xevious is quite the colossus, and has a rich history of ports (and port-adjacent things). Let's get right down into it. Original arcade flyer...

How ridiculous are video game clothes these days? No, I'm not regarding Sora's zippers or fucking female armor, but the costing of these fake clothes for your fake characters that you paid real money for. Resident Evil 2 is around the bend here s we're just about nine days away; the Deluxe Edition of this game three outfits for Claire (maybe we should get onto female armor), two for Leon, and a...
