Preamble So, this came out last week.... It would appear the much-ballyhooed Early Access release of Baldur's Gate III is upon us, and people's opinions of it have ranged the gamut. Some have found the game's "first act" to be a riveting outline of Larian's vision of a proper Baldur's Gate experience. Others have been more skeptical of the game's direction and emphasis on flashy action set-piec...

The Paper Mario games have been suffering from an identity crisis for a while. The first two games were stripped back traditional JRPGs, lacking the complexity of staples of the genre, but still possessed of a fair amount of tactical depth and deep, if whimsical, stories and characters. The third game kept in the more complex plot but changed to more of a platformer gameplay style. Then the las...

Note: The following article contains mild spoilers for Dead Space 1-3. For a video game, a communicative graphical interface is essential, yet when a developer implements one, it often goes unnoticed. If the UI is doing its job, you frequently won't be conscious of it any more than you're conscious of the movement of your legs when peddling a bike or the motions of your pen when writing a lette...

Jokes and video games often have a tumultuous, challenging relationship with one another, frequently relying on internet memes and broad slapstick to maximize their placement on the ol' global humor relateability index. This tends to be more the case when the studio is foreign - this week's game comes to us courtesy of Pixelatto in Spain - because there's a built-in perception that cultural hum...

The new Neil Cicierega album has been out for a little bit now (only a casual fan, only learned about it through Alex's Twitter), and I can honestly say I am hooked. The album itself is extremely well put together, and the magic he must possess to mash these songs together is astounding. While the past albums had few songs I would actually think about listening to outside of the context of the...

Ultima IX: Ascension THEY KILLED Mass Effect ULTIMA Developer : Origin Systems (RIP) Release Date : November 23, 1999 Time Played : A little over 3 ½ hours Dubiosity : 5 out of 5 . Updates: A couple of days after I did write the first blog entry about GE, at least I managed to complete the game first story arc. This mean that the last new player restrictions, which blocked trade and access to the Market Manager (aka Auction House) are lifted. This also mean that I got further that when I played in T3Fun server, which I was stuck in a much earlier part. Now I am on the mai...

SM3DAS is a lazy effort by Nintendo. Aside from tangential changes regarding control and presentation, Nintendo did not improve the games in any way. They are lazy ports. There is no Galaxy 2. With that out of the way, here's my take on the games after playing through all of them to completion. Super Mario 64 This was my first time playing through what is supposed to be a "pure" Nintendo 64 gam...

A third of my Indie Game of the Week itinerary are "huh, what is this?" impulse buys, a third are leftover bundle inclusions I naturally seem to accrue like a rock gathers moss (unless it's rolling, of course), and the third are purchases I attribute to the knowledgeable vox populi of this very site. Battle Chef Brigade , a game all about cooking monsters, was rated very highly by the Giant Bom...

Mad Max is not a good game. It’s not an awful game and it’s far from the worst I’ve ever played, but it’s not good. It’s repetitious, grindy, technically flawed, and at times boring, with a bad and uninteresting story and only two real characters of note. It’s the kind of open world game where there are minefields out in the world to clear, but the only way to clear them is to go to one of the...

Hi, there. Where have I been? Long story short: Life bad . In fact, it's so bad that it's best to not dwell on details. So, yeah, there probably won't be any wiki editing happening any time soon. Instead, I can tell you that, in the meantime, I've cataloged my console game collection, which spans over 800 games . A last minute addition of about 30 games came from taking over someone's old PlayS...

I believe there are still a lot of Nick Cage movies that would work for Film & 40s. It would be cool if they could do some more. Of course there are other actors they could do as well- like Sandra Bullock, Keanu Reeves, Kurt Russel, or others (I'm too tired to think of more). The thing is Nick Cage has been in a lot of movies. Some unintentionally funny, others legitimately great, and many midd...

Starting Four Sided Fantasy , it immediately hit me with a wave of nostalgia with its puzzle-platformer gameplay and slightly wistful and melancholy dialogue-free story; it felt like stepping back into 2010 when games of this type (both structurally and narratively) were the primary output of the Indie sphere, following the likes of Braid , Fez , and Limbo . I don't mean for this to sound like...

Over the last few months, I've had a real itch to make a game. I would love to make a story-driven RPG adventure like " To The Moon ". I'm wondering is it worth doing an online course in RPG Marker MV? Or should I just buy the software on Steam and figure it out by myself. Has anyone here used RPG Maker? What did you think of it?

I consider video games to by my major hobby. It's definitely where I spend the majority of my entertainment money, especially when you consider AV equipment (like a nice TV and speakers) that I use for other stuff too but wouldn't own if I weren't into gaming. I set aside money from my tax refund for the new consoles and I intended to buy both but I only got an Xbox Series X pre-order in. That...
