Originally, Cavalry Troopers fought on horseback. Being in the Cavalry was a prestigious social status, for they are some of the fiercest fighters in war and rode the highest quality horses.
Modern Cavalry
The world wars forced the Cavalry to modernize. The horses were retired in favor of tanks. Today, Cavalrymen are Scouts. The U.S. Army utilizes light Cavalry Scouts for reconnaissance missions. Heavy Cavalry Scouts specialize in light Tank combat. However, the line between Scouts and Infantry are blurred. Scouts often perform Infantry missions and vise-versa.
