Overview
CRYENGINE is the latest engine from Crytek (Company). It removes the numbering of Crytek's previous engines to reflect the ongoing updates of a service oriented product. This fourth generation of CRYENGINE is dissimilar to the previous three. During GDC 2014 Crytek announced that the CRYENGINE will be available as a subscription-based Engine-as-a-Service for indie developers, allowing anyone to use the engine by paying a monthly subscription fee.
At GDC 2016 it was announced that the engine would move to a "Pay What You Want" model, with monthly memberships and enterprise tiers offering extras services, such as support. With these changes came the introduction of a game asset marketplace.
