I remember revenge, and enjoyed it. Some of the tracks you drove on were amazing. I don't remember the earlier ones too much, because its been so long. But I remember the crash challenges of the earlier ones. All the cars were the same color (red or blue or something).

Revenge had some very dope ass music on it, I remember some crazy Doors trance remix while driving the last car you unlocked in that super race at the end in like somewhere in East Asia. Hard game, would love to play it again on my original hugebox.

In my opinion, probably 2 or Paradise. 2 was a breakout game; it had it's own distinct feel from other racers at the time (including it's predecessor) and I loved the breakdown between races and crash challenges, where the racing wasn't about contact and speed was king. If you wanted to crash, you had a mode for that. If you wanted to race, then you could do it without the later "takedown" aspect bleeding into it.

Paradise is my choice for open world racing. Good selection of cars (I personally would prefer licenced vehicles, but not at the cost of gameplay/damage modeling and that would undoubtedly be impacted by it), the races were kept fresh by all the different starting/ending points, and there's a pile of shortcuts and secrets to smash into. I put probably 150 hours into it and found it very enjoyable.

Takedown, for sure.

Burnout 3. It has my favorite soundtrack in any racing game.

Paradise and Revenge

i've only played dominator and paradise, so dominator.

Paradise = Takedown > Everything else by a mile.

3>Revenge=Paradise>2>1>Legends>Dominator.

takedown and revenge are the most burnout-y burnout games definitely, and I remember takedown being a game I enjoyed a lot with friends when I was younger but my favourite has to be paradise. that game is still one of my favourite games of the generation and my favourite driving game full stop. I've put so many hours into that game and still occasionally come back to it. definitely one of my favourite multiplayer games ever too.

Burnout 3

I personally prefer paradise because I find the city a literal paradise! I don't know why everyone hates paradise, it's really simple to remember stuff, Baseball on bottom right and coast gaurd thingy at top left and learn things on the way, but I understand having to hit select and look at where the heck you're going. I wish there was 2p mode and NOT party dlc. 2p mode like splitscreen and driving around the city separately but only 1st player activates stuff (except junkyard).

Thinking about how fantastic Takedown is again makes me sad the series will probably never return from its move to open world.

Revenge is soooooo much fun. I still play that game occasionally.

Revenge by far followed by 3 with it's spawning traffic.

For me its revenge then 3, paridise , 2 and 1. I was a huge rush 2049 fan so I think revenge hit a very specific cord with me.

Plus traffic checking if fucking great!

I think Revenge might be one of my most disappointing games of all time. I have never hated a mechanic introduced to a series I liked more than traffic checking. The game should always be about dodging traffic, in either lane.

Paradise by so far it's difficult to describe the gap.

Every burnout other than 1, 2, and Paradise just cause of the bad GPS.

1 and 2 were just boring as hell.

@artisanbreads: couldn't you have fun while dodging the ones being periodically thrown at you? Sure its random as hell but since when was burnout about skill and not violence against other drivers?

I hate the idea of some NPC car having a easier time taking me down then an opponent.

Takedown is easily the best one. And the one I had the most fun with. Paradise would be second place, but I have no fondness for the open world style of it.

Takedown. Had the best feeling, looked amazing, and such an amazing soundtrack. Also I liked playing Road Rage with no time limit.

It was about skill and violence, in perfect balance, in Takedown to me. Burnout has always been about skill man c'mon. And dodging traffic at crazy high speeds while drifting around a corner is Burnout to me.

I like Burnout that way.... Revenge threw it so far out of balance.

I'm such a big Takedown fan that it really fucked with me how they changed it so fundamentally. If it was called something other than Burnout I might have enjoyed it I guess.

I like Takedown and Revenge a lot. Paradise was fun but I didn't enjoy it as much.

I had Burnout Revenge and it makes some of the NFS installments, pansies. I played less than 10 minutes Paradise 'cause it looked weak for me.

@artisanbreads: Nothing wrong with 3 but I much prefer lower skill focus on my arcade style racing games like Rush.

As far as the name is concerned I agree that it could have been named something else but that's probably why they stopped using numbers anyway. To that end I would not want paradise to have the burnout name either.

I have the best memories of Burnout 3, but I probably put the most time into Paradise.

3 was just soooo good. Paradise is great too, but the actual races feel like a chore to me. I hate open world racing. Everything else was a blast, though.

Burnout 3 easily, all the crash happy fun of 2 but with Takedowns introduced for racing modes which is damn near the most satisfying thing ever in a video game. It was also prior to same way traffic checking which was poop.
