    Overview

    Belldandy is a goddess and one of the primary characters in the Ah! My Goddess anime and manga franchise. When Keiichi Morisato, a down-on-his-luck college student, picks up the phone and unknowingly dials the Goddess Help Line, she answers to grant him one wish. Without thinking, Keiichi accidentally wishes that Belldandy could be with him forever, and the wish is accepted, leaving Belldandy on Earth with Keiichi. The two begin living with each other and eventually form a romantic relationship despite the efforts of Belldandy's sisters, Urd and Skuld, as well as other forces intent on tearing the two apart.

    Belldandy's name comes from Norse mythology. It is a somewhat corrupted spelling of Verdandi, one of the three Norns. Belldandy's sisters, Urd and Skuld, are likewise named after Norns.
