Overview
Also referred to as "Gyudon" in Japanese (literally meaning "beef bowl"), a beef bowl consists of a bowl of rice covered with beef, onions, sauce, ginger, and it is often topped with an egg. The sauce is mostly made up of fish stock, soy sauce, and sweet rice wine. Oftentimes, a side dish of miso soup is included with this meal. Beef bowls have become such a popular dish that a couple fast food restaurants were opened based upon it. Yoshinoya is one of the largest beef bowl chains.
