A study in bad sequel design 5

When it comes to great sequels, few games knocked it out of the park in the 360/PS3 era quite like Arkham City. It expanded upon the cool gameplay of Asylum and added some fun new tech and a great world to explore, along with a strong narrative and a hell of a lot of fun stuff to see and do. Arkham Origins was passable, mostly because it didn't upset the apple cart - if someone liked Arkham City and wanted more of it, Origins could help scratch that itch. Arkham Knight is neither great or passab...

Ugh... shooting drone tanks... again??? 0

My reverence for the Arkham games is well known among my friends. But since anyone reading this likely doesn't know me on a personal level, let me just say that Asylum and City were easy GotY contenders for me in the years in which they were released. I've yet to ever play a "perfect" game, but these were as close as I've seen to the lofty height of perfection in my entire time spent gaming. There's just, simply, a lot to like in both Asylum and City. And we'll just all agree not to speak of Ark...

    Batman: Combat Evolved 1

After countless hours of playing,( I was savouring my time, since this is the very last Arkham game), I have finally completed Arkham Knight. I don't really care what anyone says, to me, the Arkham series will always be one of the best gaming trilogies (not counting Origins). Is the Arkham Knight perfect? Unfortunately no, it's far from it. What makes me sad, though, is that it's bogged down by what could have made this the most amazing Batman game to date. They tried, they really did, but you c...

    Goodbye dark knight 0

The third and final Batman game from Rocksteady Studios is also the best of the three follow ups, including Arkham Origins which wasn't developed by Rocksteady, to the original game: Batman: Arkham Asylum. Though Asylum is still the best game in the series Knight is the closest to match its level in terms of the overall experience and it makes for a worthy end for Rocksteady's Batman trilogy. The big new addition to the game is the Batmobile and while it eventually gets fun to use it takes a whi...

    Batman Arkham Knight Review 0

Batman has long been one of the best, if not the best, comic book heroes over the past few years. Between Christopher Nolan’s take on the caped crusader in film, and Rocksteady’s take on Batman in the Arkham games, we have been served a variety of Batman stories over the past few years. Batman Arkham Knight is the latest entry in the Arkham games and features new and exciting storylines for the caped crusaders. While the main storyline can be at times very predictable, there is plen...

I liked Arkham Knight, but I didn't like Arkham Knight 0

SPOILER ALERT: I'm not holding back. I will dive deep into spoilers for Batman Arkham Knight. I liked Arkham knight, but I didn't like Arkham Knight. In Arkham Knight, the final entry in the Batman Arkham series created by Rocksteady, Batman faces his biggest challenge yet. No, it's not Scarecrow. No it's not the eponymous Arkham Knight, or 200 Riddler trophies. Instead, Batman's biggest challenge is the realization that he is just not enough to keep Gotham safe anymore. It's an interesting ang...

Batman Arkham Knight Spoiler Review 0

As I'm perched on a gargoyle I look down on some thugs harassing a captured fireman. I count 6 of them and before they can know what hit them a cloud of smoke surrounds them. I jump in the middle of them and take out 5 of them in true Batman fashion leaving only one left. He foolishly rushes me and a swift counter takes him out easily. If there is one thing the Arkham series excelled at was making you feel like the Dark Knight. Rocksteady turned Batman from a joke in the gaming industry to a phe...

Be the Batman...stop me if you've heard this before 0

Back in 2009, the industry was treated to one of the biggest surprises of the last generation. The arrival of Batman: Arkham Asylum forever changed AAA development of action-adventure titles, further instantiating a wide array of derivations surfacing as a result of its nearly perfect mechanics. Since then, additional games have been released under the subheading of "Arkham", comprising of two more by original developer Rocksteady and another installment by WB Montreal. Arkham Asylum's follow-up...

When should a superhero retire? When should his fans? 0

Superheros were not really a thing of my childhood. I preferred GI Joe, Wrestling, and other things more grounded in reality. It's impossible to not be aware of the cultural significance superheros had. For me the comics were mainly a tool for me to learn to read. Having pictures to go with words really was a boost to my reading. That transition for reading happened quickly enough for me to not read very many comics. What i did pick up was just a mish mash of what looked cool on a spindle near a...

Arkham Knight is a masterpiece and I recommend it as a must buy 0

Arkham Knight Review (X1)I want to preface this review by saying that I love the Batman comics and movies, but played very little of the first two games in Rocksteady’s epic trilogy (yep they are pretending that origins never happened!). Even though I don’t think it's critical to play the other games, I feel there were probably a lot of story points and nuances I was missing. They kinda just throw you into the game. It took me a little while through trial and error to get going, but ...

    Batman: Arkham Knight 0

The (purported) final of Rocksteady's Arkham games can't quite escape from under the shadow of Asylum's unexpected brilliance, due in part to its apparent nervousness to stray too far from the conventions established in that game, but is still a fantastic conclusion to the series. The fundamentals of the game are much the same as City, with the same progression through open world type side missions showcasing various Batman villains, along with a somewhat apocalyptic main story for Batman to slo...

Arkham Knight: Beauty in Motion 0

I cannot put this game down. The story brings a satisfying conclusion to the Rocksteady trilogy, and also manages to nail Batman as video game narrative. Additionally, the basic act of playing is so invigorating that even moving around is fun. Cathartic, even. What Rocksteady has done with the Arkham franchise is nothing short of impressive - breathed life into licensed games, showed how a superhero game could be done right, etc. - and lightning has just struck a third time. Arkham Knight is eas...

Batman: Arkham Knight (Minor Spoilers) 0

Batman: Arkham Knight is developer Rocksteady's first leap onto current generation consoles, and the end of their trilogy that made Batman a symbol for what super hero video games can be. With the great combat of the last two games, and new additions like the Batmobile, there is a lot to love. Their latest work is a perfect conclusion that ends The Dark Knights tale with not a lot of questions left unanswered. The Arkham KnightIn Batman: Arkham Knight, the city of Gotham is under threat of two ma...

    Batman: Arkham Knight 0

Hello Everyone! This game improved on many of the aspects we know and love about Rocksteady's Arkham series! Gadgets have been improved and expanded upon, combat has been made even more seamless and cinematic, the Batmobile offers a variety of new game-functionality, and the WayneTech screen has a whole new set of flare!PC users have been given the short end of the stick on this one unfortunately, but luckily for us, we were able to play the PC release without much problem (minus being unable to...

    Disjointed, mostly good 0

It's more Batman. This one probably plays the best, the combat is very good and the Batmobile was a good addition to the series. The story was ok; extremely disjointed, the Joker parts were fantastic, the Scarecrow/Arkham Knight stuff was lame. I found the portrayal of Gordon and the entire GCPD was borderline offensive, the game really makes everyone but Batman out to be pathetically weak.I think Asylum and Origins had better stories, but this game has the very best Joker that has ever been in th...
