@Animasta: No.... The Sullivan Expedition was directed against the natives who sided with the British though there may have been collateral damage.

Most natives did side with the British, because they were hoping to stop the colonists from expanding farther west. Who knows what would have happened if the British won though, it may have been better for them, or not.

I mean if you consider the native populations of the USA and the native populations of Canada today you would find that it would indeed have been better for them.

but I distinctly remember reading that washington directly fucked up native americans who sided with the british and some that did not, so...

Even if that is the case (Which does seem likely.) it's important to remember that this was a war, and the Natives (Directed by the British) were raiding the Colonists as well. In fact one of the worst actions of the war was the Cherry Valley massacre, which was exactly that.

It's likely that some villages that supported the Americans were destroyed, but Washington's orders were specifically to target the villages that were hostile to the American cause.

I don't want to defend his actions too much. I don't think you can read history books and think that the native Americans were treated fairly by the Colonists by any stretch of the imagination, but laying that blame on Washington seems misplaced.

I don't have a problem with the season pass, as it can be a good value (LA Noire, MK spring to mind), but I hate when they push it before the game is even released. Let me get the game in my hands and hell, even wait and release one piece of the new content to let me get a feel for it before asking me to shell out 50% more of the retail price

I really, really hope these aren't just "missing chapters" from the core game. I really hated when they pulled that shit with the previous games.

I guess I'm stuck in the AC hype cycle but this sounds awesome. Obviously they've learned that the missing chapters approach to DLC isn't the greatest so they're just making new, off beat stories for DLC.

Not sure why people think it is upsetting to have this announced before the game is released. They've made it clear that it has nothing to do with the main story and sounds just like the stuff they would have a team working on while they finished polishing the game.

This is the equivalent of Medal of Honor having Bin Laden death mission-inspired levels for sale as DLC.

This DLC actually sounds pretty awesome. As for getting 5 expansions within 6 months, I think that's too much. That leaves little room to work on the expansions and make sure nothing goes wrong.

@SomeDeliCook: While I agree with you entirely, I hope you're not one to think "Why don't they just put this [DLC] into the game before release?" type of player. This type of thing is primarily to dissuade players from trading the game in - and therefore hurt the used game market. I don't love DLC as much when it's laid out to the public like this (season passes blah blah blah) but I understand where the publishers and developers are coming from with the decision.

I guess I'll be THAT guy. This isn't to dissuade people from buying used. This is a way for Ubisoft to get their money at the start. There's nothing wrong with that, of course. Because I can still pick up a used copy of Assassin's Creed III and buy whatever DLC or the Season Pass.

And I love buying me some cheap games. Go on to Amazon and buy whatever's cheap. Used or new, it doesn't matter. I just save me some cash.

@jakkblades: No. No, it really isn't. Alternate versions of events that happened a few centuries earlier aren't anything like missions taking place where a terrorist was killed within the past few years.

Not really. The little insight i've learned over the years into game development makes me feel safe in assuming core AC3 is already done and wrapped and now their working on this stuff. Plus ubisoft is known for dividing this kind of work between multiple studios.

    Based on what?

Of course he wasn't perfect, but he was still a good military leader, especially fighting the British who had some of the most experienced and decorated generals in the world. He was no Alexander or Genghis, but nobody is alleging he is.

I like this. I like the idea of mainline AC being historically accurate with their own fictional figure and mythology dropped into it, with wilder "what if" scenarios as DLC. I really hope this is the beginning of more such content for the series.

Dude, this "What if" kind of scenario is WAY cooler than the actual faux-history of the games!

Regardless, I'm really cold on AC3 for some reason. I think I'll wait for some kind of GOTY edition (which I almost never do, or say before a game comes out, because I invariably end up buying it. Don't make a liar out of me, me.)

What? why not? They're clearly going for extremes and having fun in what is essentially a spin-off to the main game which tries to have historical accuracy.

This is actually a very interesting concept for an alt-history DLC, as a few people whispered suggestions that it would make for a stronger America to have Washington as its king, and later many feared that he would become a monarch in all but name once he became president.

He was too noble to consider that of course, but he was an excellent political player, and so that makes the scenario of 'what if he was evil' potentially very fun.

But as others have said, this series isn't known for its subtlety. We'll probably just have some piece-of-eden-corruption setup, followed by him kicking dudes apart while riding a crystal horse.

Whenever they announce something like this, unless I'm frothing at the mouth for the game, it just means I'm going to wait for the GOTY edition where all this nonsense gets bundled up and I don't have to spend extra money for an unfinished product.

This logic works even better for PC, because you have to wait until the DRM has been stripped out of it and the game doesn't quit to desktop every time Ubisoft's servers get DDoSed.

Ubisoft killed their DRM, I believe and I want to say AC3 is the first game that won't have it.

"King Washington" sounds horrible - too many "ing" syllables in close proximity. I suppose he would've just gone by "King George I of America" ... and now I've thought about this far too much.
