I'm trying to figure out which edition of Assassin's Creed II to buy. From what I can see, the Deluxe Edition contains 2 pieces of DLC. I heard that the Black Edition and Game of the Year Edition include all of it, though, and this multitude of re-releases has me confused.

I'm also not sure where to buy it. I usually try to get a physical copy of all my games, but Amazon doesn't seem to have them for anything except the standard edition, so I'm confused yet again. Should I buy via the Ubisoft Store, or should I go with Steam?

Yes, I'm buying it on PC. Nothing you can say will dissuade me, so please just answer my questions instead of criticizing me for being a sheep.

I'm buying AC2 on PC, and am not sure whether to buy the Deluxe, Black, or GotY edition of the game. I'm also unsure whether I should buy it from Ubisoft's website or Steam.

    Thanks in advance.

I bought the deluxe or something form steam a while back.  I personally did not see much in extra content.  If I were you I would just get it on steam because of its price and convenience, but Ubisoft does have something called UPLAY which are basically game tokens earned by playing which allow you to unlock extra content you would have to pay for.  To use this you will have to make an ubi account whether you have steam or not.  Its a great game and I never had the DRM cut me off.

I like Assassin's Creed, even if you don't, and I have a right to my opinion. Be helpful or be silent.

Assassin's Creed II is a good game.

Also, just buy the regular-ass edition. There's enough content in the game as is.

im forcing myself to finish it. man is it dragging for me.
i wondered around too much in the beginning, should have went straight through with the story line.
its a repetitious game, so my only recommendation is to not worry about missing anything and go story point to story point, otherwise you will get prematurely burned out.

     tl:dr, dont sweat the DLC.

If you are going to buy it for the PC, buy it via Steam.  Also, unless you really love yourself some Assassin's Creed II, it isn't really worth it to buy the DLC.  There is plenty of stuff in the game to keep you interested for some time.

I bought the complete edition for ~$20. The DLC isn't very long but I think the game would have felt kinda weird near the endgame without it. My vision is probably clouded from not having seen the cut version though.

...I've been looking into this as well, though my question is basically just if there is any difference at all between the "complete" edition and the GOTY edition? I look at the descriptions on amazon, and the extra content looks identical, but maybe that's just me?

The DLC is not really worth it. If you can get the regular edition for cheaper, do that.

DLC is almost literally irrelevant. Just extra time with the game-world. The game itself is satisfying enough.

The most complete pack would have to feature both Battle of Forli and Bonfire of the Vanities, as well as the three additional Templar Lairs from the Black Edition. I know there was a pack for 360 containing both Bonfire and the Lairs, don't know about the PC version though.
