Assassin's Creed 2 has been on my someday list since it came out, and all the brotherhood hype has got me wanting to play it

They work.

Just finished playing it actually.  They work just fine, though not having played the console version, can't really compare.

I was skeptical about using a mouse and keyboard when I bought this game a few days ago, but they work just fine, I played AC1 on the 360 and hated how it controlled, but AC2 on the PC feels pretty good and fluid.  I haven't been able to stop playing the game since I bought it, it's phenomenal. It's a shame that Brotherhood was delayed on the PC. At least these guys do a decent job at porting to PC. 
 
  
Actually one bad thing about the controls is how they are labeled in game. They will tell you something like hit the jump button, instead of saying hit the space bar. It will take you about 30-45 min to have it memorized, but after that its not a problem. 

They work just fine, once you know WHAT they are. It takes an hour or so to learn how the hell to use them.

Not that your asking, but the Xbox controller works great.

You should really just get a wired 360 controller or the wireless adapter. There are tons of great console games ported to the PC and they've been designed with a controller in mind.

I'm playing the game right now. I went from playing the brotherhood game on ps3 with a gamepad and jumped back into this game on pc. It works no problem at all.
