Either way I was disappointed, before the card game bit I immediately had "oh a destiny like game" in my head purely based on this image and the prior coloured variant of the logo denoting colour coded loot.

Feel like valve is late to this party UNLESS the card game is vastly different from hearthstone and carves it's own market out. Honestly it's a waste of Muir...

When Brad Muir was hired by them, I had a moment where I was kind of worried he wouldn't actually make any games and just make like, hats or some shit.
I have zero interest in any card game, but good for him he got to make something.

I remember when I used to be excited when Valve did something, they even soft announced those VR games a while back, and I just don't care. The silence and unfinished nature of Half-life was rubbish, they let their store flood with the most garbage of games (and developers) without caring, and now their latest game is another card game. Whoop-de-dooo. Gabe reminds me of George Lucas at this point, just let someone else take over because you're ruining everything.

I really want to know what everyone in that arena was expecting. That turn from anticipation to near total disappointment was harsh.

Couldn't think of a combination I'd like to play less than Dota and CCG.

Random info from Day9 on stream:

There are three game boards that represent the lanes

You control 5 heroes, just like DotA

You can equip item cards on to the Heroes that you buy with gold

There are creeps that spawn every turn

You can play creature cards

Some cards are cast on the lane and have persistent effects on that lane

Each Hero has abilities like their DotA counterparts ("You can cast track on a Hero as Bounty Hunter and get extra Gold")

God forbid they actually showoff the game though. Valve being Valve, they have to be all obtuse and shit even at their own goddamn event. I mean...really? They just put out a "trailer" with the logo and name of the game. That doesn't exactly scream "this is a product we're confident in/one we believe will be out any time even remotely soon." Not that it matters I suppose since it is a Valve joint. The fact that they're putting out anything at this point is hype enough for most people. I want it to be great, but they could not have chosen a worse way to announce it.

Does a DotA card game need such a grandiose, ethereal mystical logo, name and reveal? It's a fuckin card game, we already know what it's gonna be like, you don't have to hide it and be all hush hush about it.

I don't see a problem with this, though it's entering quite the crowded field. I just don't know how you would announce this right now without causing immense disappointment. Maybe they should have had a blurb just saying, "Hey, we're making a DOTA card game. Details to follow."

I've pretty much written off virtual ccgs, but Brad Muir is a cool dude that makes cool games, so I might check this out.

It being attached to the steam market could make this a lot less p2w. I rather buy 10 useful cards instead of buying 10 cardpacks. Decently liked hearthstone in the first month, but realized that as more cards were made, the p2w bullshit would take over.

At least make it a new IP...

If this isn't about money, it's about finding a way to have DotA brand exposure on smartphones. Can't fit in a game of DotA 2 before your flight? Now you can enjoy all of your favourite heroes and items 24/7 on your phone!

Relax, they're serving an audience: you may not, but a lot of people like card games. I include myself there; I'm much more excited to see what this is than I would be interested in a new Half Life at this point. Half of the reactions in this thread are really beyond the pale.
