Overview

Alien Breed is a sci-fi top-down shooter developed and published by Team17 for the Amiga (Platform) in Europe in 1991.

Combining a sci-fi horror atmosphere based on the Alien (Franchise) film series with the fast-paced horde-based shooting gameplay of games like the Gauntlet (Franchise) series, Alien Breed tasks two soldiers with fighting off hostile alien infestation on the Federation research space station ISRC-4. Up to two players can play at once for co-operative action.

The game received several sequels and spin-offs, as well an updated re-release in 1992 as Alien Breed Special Edition '92 (or in-game as Alien Breed '92 Special Edition). The re-release features updating pacing and 12 new levels. The Special Edition also received an Amiga CD32 (Platform) release in 1994, where it was bundled with Qwak (Game) as one of the two Team17 CD32 Double Pack releases. The game also received a conversion for DOS PCs in 1993 (which also received a North American release by MicroLeague (Company)), based on the Special Edition, and received a downloadable high-definition remaster for iOS devices (on August 1, 2012), with a later release for Android (Platform) devices, the PlayStation 3 (Platform), and the PlayStation Vita (Platform) on February 12, 2013.

Gameplay

The survival in Alien Breed depends on the player's health, lives, ammo, credits and keys. Most of these can be replenished at one of the computer stations scattered throughout each level. The player can also purchase various types of guns from these computers.
