The popularity of achievements populates our lists yet again this week as Dragon Age: Origins holds on for a second week in a row. But what does it say about all this that Dragon Age appears at the top of the "viewed the full set of achievements" list, but no one achievement appears on the individual achievement popularity list? Are people seeing the list, getting intimidated, and buying the PC version, instead?

Assassin's Creed II, however, continues to be an achievement juggernaut, with only 1 vs. 100 matching or beating it on the daily unlocks charts (which you can find on the homepage, of course). Considering 1 vs. 100 is free, and Assassin's Creed II isn't, I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that AC2 is probably selling pretty well. Bold, I know.

You know, I was initially pretty excited to see 1 vs. 100 return, but after playing it for an hour, I sort of lost interest. I still like the basic idea behind it, but playing from the crowd just isn't grabbing me. Even the promise of playing better in the crowd leading to getting into the mob isn't enough to keep me sticking around. I went in, got the quick achievements, and got out.

3,378 of you have played 1 vs. 100 since they added achievements a few weeks back. For something that's free to all Gold users, I sort of feel like that number should be higher. That's less than half of what Borderlands has brought in, which currently sits at a very impressive 6,774 players. The DLC has brought some players back to Borderlands, it seems, as it's seen a bit of a resurgence lately. Not that it was ever really in a huge slump. It's no wonder that Take-Two mentioned it in its earnings call last week, and it's safe to expect more Borderlands--meaning a whole new game, not just more DLC--in the near future. How many more pieces of Borderlands DLC would you be willing to play? If they raise the level cap and let me make more progress with the character I've already sunk 50 hours into, I'd probably go for another three or so packs.

Anyway, here's the top ten list for game-level achievement lists.

    Top 10 Sets

    1. Dragon Age: Origins
    2. Assassin's Creed II
    3. Left 4 Dead 2
    4. Borderlands
    5. Modern Warfare 2
    6. Rogue Warrior
    7. 1 vs. 100
    8. Backyard Football '10
    9. The Saboteur
    10. Garry's Mod

Yup. Garry's Mod crept back up there. Weird. Steam's calling the shots as far as new lists go, with four new PC games showing up. I think we're just about done with Xbox 360 releases for the year, at least as far as retail discs are concerned. Actually, retailers are showing stuff like Konami Classics Volume 1, Guitar Hero: Van Halen, and Divinity II: Ego Draconis as shipping before the end of the year, but I'm guessing Konami Classics will share achievements with the individual XBLA games on the disc, and we already have that other stuff in the system. We even have the first week of 2010 covered with Bayonetta and Darksiders already listed.

We'll also take in a couple of new Games For Windows Live releases over the next week or so, as Microsoft's gearing up for a new PC-based games on demand store and a few new (well, new to GFWL, anyway) games are coming with that, like World of Goo, Osmos, and Tinker

    Get some $%#@$ Steam achievements.
    Get some $%#@$ Steam achievements.

    New Sets

I swear, I think there are five different versions of that Scene It? game out there on 360. There should be some kind of bonus for players who track down all of the appropriate hardware and software needed to play them all. That bonus should probably be a kick in the face.

Assassin's Creed II is holding it down on the individual achievements list with four entries. I swear, I stunned more than four guys with sand on multiple occasions and never got that Messer Sandman achievement. Same for the one where you need to knock down five guys with a long weapon. Did it, no points. So I gave up and lent my copy to Dave.

    Top 10 Individual

    1. Assassin's Creed II - Show your Colors
    2. Borderlands - Braaaaaaaaaaaaains!
    3. Left 4 Dead 2 - GUARDIN' GNOME
    4. Left 4 Dead 2 - CONFEDERACY OF CRUNCHES
    5. Assassin's Creed II - In Memory of Petruccio
    6. Borderlands - You're on a boat!
    7. Assassin's Creed II - Messer Sandman
    8. Garry's Mod - Secret Phrase
    9. Borderlands - My Brother is an Italian Plumber
    10. Assassin's Creed II - An Old Friend
OK, the time I'm spending writing this is time I could be using to finish The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks. I'm pretty much at the end of it right now, but my DSi was running low, so I threw it back on the charger for a bit. That game's got some really cool stuff in it, which nicely offsets the two or three bits where I wanted to take that thing and throw it under a moving car.

This achievements feature is a very interesting read.  Continue this feature.  I'm so happy that ACII appears to be so successful!  I have 1000 gamerpoints on that game, because the achievements are fun to get, and not infuriating.

I would totally be down for more Borderlands! You know, even though I never bought the game or played the DLC. I did get to level 50 on my cousins game though, and that was pretty badass.

1 vs 100 is not available worldwide so naturally the number of players would be lower some other games :)

I think they should maybe do one or two DLC packs for Borderlands, but for some reason I'd rather just have a whole new game. I know its kinda soon and it obviously wouldn't come out until like 2011, but there are soooo many things they could add to that game to make it even more awesome than it already is. If they put a good story into it and just add or improve a few features, I really think that the next game could be one of the greatest games ever.

Was Garry's Mod one of the Steam deals over the Thanksgiving weekend? If it was it would explain the sudden jump to the list; it's great to see it up there though!

As long as they raise the level cap next time around for Borderlands DLC, I will buy every one that they release. Which means 3 or 4..

@chogi: When Sony says so, most likely? Closed system is closed. Gotta get on those PSBlog forums and make some noise about it.

Point Intimidation is just one of many reasons I would get Dragon Age on PC.  Tried it at a friend's today and liked it just fine.  Though it really made me think about finishing up Jade Empire.

After being spoiled by the massive influx of Quick Looks over Thanksgiving, it was understandable that they would taper off the week after vacation. But if there isn't more GiantBomb video content this week, I'm going to type, angrily.

In that typefest, I will link GiantBomb and no new Endurance Run to the lack of dedicated servers in MW2 and Luchadeer being demon Greg Kasavin from the future.

That is a threat. Don't tempt me.

Well 1 vs 100 is still not available in Europe and seeing as this is an international site I wouldnt compare those numbers to a AAA retail product that has been shipped worlwide and say that the humbers should be higher.

Dragon Age rocks, Jeff. You are missing out. It almost seems to me that you are more interested these days in easy achievement points than actually playing fun games. That's seems like dangerous territory for a dude whose living is based off of reviewing games. Like would a game get an extra star because of some easy achievements?

@Alphazero: I don't think they're glitchy. I think the problem is more that people think they should be getting the achievement even though they didn't do it properly. Mainly with the sandman one, I kept throwing sand at the same group of guys over and over, but one of them was just slightly out of range, and so it didnt connect on all 4. It sure looked like it did, and I imagine that other people get the same thing. But when I finally did get the achievement, it was crystal clear that I had hit all 4 guys.

Nice, thorough update. I wasn't even aware that 1 vs. 100 had achievements....must have missed that!!! I am also glad to hear Spirit Tracks is a good game. It seemed to get released at such a late date that I wasn't sure to care for it or not anymore.

That's seems like dangerous territory for a dude whose living is based off of reviewing games. Like would a game get an extra star because of some easy achievements? "
