When you get a new game do you go in blind, or do you look up the achievements/tropies before hand so you know what to shoot for?
I go in knowing them, writing them in a book actually, to cross off as I do them. I try and just glance over story related ones to save from spoilers.
Am I nuts?

Achievements are extra challenges added into video games that sometimes carry a point value or unlock bonus material, and are sometimes solely for bragging rights.
Achievements/Trophies - How do you approach them?
When the achievement system was new I really enjoyed printing out the achievements before I played so I could go for the S-Rank. As time went on that grew less and less fascinating to me, so now I usually go in blind and just get what I get.
As an OCD-styled completionist I still end up gettting a lot of them.
I'll take a peak at the ones that are listed, and I'll go for Platinum if they seem reasonably achievable. If they are all secret then I will play around witht he game a bit before looking any of them up.
I only have 3 Platinum trophies, though I would have all of the R2 trophies if they didn't want me to get 10,000 kills in deathmatch (I seriously got all the other ones, man do I feel screwed over by that).
I usually glance at them to make sure none will be missed from just going through the main story of a game. Once the story is done, then I will keep playing to get achievements that you have to go out of your way for.
I don't really care about achievements (Hence my rather low Gamer Score). If I get them whilst playing them that's great but I don't generally actively seek to get them.
The spoilers are the worst part. But I'm stuck in the middle.
The completionist in me wants to get the S-Rank, but the lazy chubby guy in me doesn't want to play through twice...
Games have gotten better with not spoiling things through descriptions, or leaving them vague enough that you don't know what it means until you get there. But sometimes they slip through and you find out that you have to SPOILER WARNING: Click here to reveal hidden content.
...and more games should move towards the achievement progress pop ups like Gears 2 and Shadow Complex
I really pay no attention to the achievement/trophy list. Sure I care about them in a tiny insignificant way but I only really take a look at it when I first pop a game in the drive. After that I'll open that list once or twice just to track my progress as I naturally play a game, diverging every once in while to snag that easy achievement but I make no effort to S rank any game that I play.
I do agree about the progress pop-ups they need to be incorporated into the current systems, great help when you are not sure how many more liquor stores you need to kill for their pelts (Greatest description ever).
I usually go through the whole game without really paying attention to the achievements. Once I've completed the game I check out which ones I'm close to or which ones sound fun. Then I go for those.
I look them up to make sure i won't miss anything. There's nothing worse than missing a really easy achievement and having to replay the whole game again to get it. I will also print out any collectible guides for the game and make sure i check them off as i go through it. And like the OP i also have a book that i write stuff down in and refer to as i play.
I don't care for trophies or achievements, but I usually try to get at least 30% of them (which you can usually do with just one playthrough), just to keep everything even on the stats sheet.
