Overview
The Los Angeles Vault is the very first vault built by Vault-Tec, designed as a demonstration vault, to prove their design for a large scale fallout shelter in case of a nuclear holocaust. The success of the vault allowed Vault-Tec to start "Project Safehouse", their plan to build hundreds of vaults across the United States.
Post-Great War
With the events of The Great War, people hid inside of the vault, which successfully protects the inhabitants from the hazards of nuclear radiation. When the vault reopens years later, the dwellers left and eventually formed various local groups.
Layout
Entrance
The entrance to the vault goes through a small cave that is linked to the basement of the Cathedral above ground. The Los Angeles Vault differs from the standard vaults in that it's airlock is much smaller with its EML-2 room designed with additional windows.
Level 2
The elevator in Level 2 is located on the side of the floor, differing from the usual layout where the elevator is in the center. Also housed in the second level were a chapel, barracks, and a large research lab where scientists studied and experiments on the psionic potential of humans.
Command Center
The third level of the vault became the control heart of Unity, guarded by the most elite nightkin guards lead by Viscious. Located at the center was the Overseer's Chair, where the Master chose to make his command post. There is an additional elevator to a secure storage room.
Nuclear Warhead Storage
The deepest level of the vault was remodeled to be a secure storage of the Master's ultimate defense: one of the last few remaining operational nuclear warheads. The key to the console was kept in the possession of the Lieutenant.
