An XCOM TV show could be flippin' amazing - and structurally (much of it happening in the secret underground base), it could actually be feasible on a TV show budget, and be good at that.

Who else wants to see a XCOM TV show?

I've been watching X-files on Amazon Instant.  That's close enough for me.

Would it be about the soldiers, people working at the base or some kind of mix?

We have an XCOM movie, it's called Independence Day.

I think a cartoon about a squad of XCOM teen rookies (multicultural and diverse with one who is paraplegic named "Wheels" to appeal to the handi-capable demographic of course) and their lovable wise cracking Sectoid friend named "Glorpy" as they try to foil the fiendish Dr. Muton and his wacky and incompetent alien henchmen from taking over the world while also learning important life lessons. I think that would be what the kids call "the bee's knees".

I'd want characters to die a lot... they do in my game. :)

Every week, all but one of the cast members gets replaced after being wiped out on the latest mission. That one surviving soldier leads the new recruits the following week, only to die in a new and interesting way so that someone else can take over. The actual staff at the base will be the only recurring characters, but they'll be replaced each season, due to the finale being the X-Com base being destroyed and operations moving to a different HQ.

I think it could be done really well if it was maybe kinda like The Outer Limits, where they were all expendable with every episode.

I was thinking more 'Dead Set', just with aliens, and a more positive outlook on things.

In the pilot, the alien invasion happens on TV (in newscasts and such) in an unreal and detached manner, and a cast of characters gets recruited into XCOM - whilst these fresh XCOM recruits get up to speed in the secret underground headquarters, the world around them goes more and more to shit (again more hearsay than anything). Starting out with a strong serial aspect establishing the characters and XCOM and the alien threat (albeit the viewers are as detached from the invasion, as the characters are), and then continually mixing in more procedural 'fight of the week' aspects (shit's getting more and more real) - whilst the serial aspect about the larger picture of an alien invasion and all such a thing can entail will easily keep on fascinating - and deliver endless material for writing entertaining episodes and larger story arcs.
