Rorie talked about his total play time this week on the podcast, estimating about 3000 hours.

That made me take the time to total up all of my characters.

    11 Characters - 3 at 90, 1 at 85, 1 at 80, a few low levels for testing classes

    Most hours:

Psylah - My main - Protection warrior. I just crested 200 days played.

Adding the rest my total comes to:

~345 days. Some extra hours by the side, but in total that is over 8,280 hours since 2005.

Total up your playtime, let's see who's had it the worst.

My total play time in WoW is 0.

In Runescape however, I would estimate to be around 1000 to 1200 hours. I'd listen to 1Up Yours, grind in RS, tab over to peggle and take a shot, pick up my PSP and do a round of combat in a FF7 battle then check to see if the resources had respawned in RS. It was a brutal cycle.

I would if I could, but I've been unsubbed since shortly after the release of Cataclysm. As far as I know the only way to get your playtime is the /played command within the game. I had a lot of hours logged for the time I spent playing (midway through BC until a few weeks in to Cata).

I think accumulative I had over 130 days played, so that's a bit more than 3000 hours for me as well. That's over the course of seven years, from release til just a bit after Cataclysm.

Around 3 hours I think. Blizzard gave it to me for free for being an early adopter of StarCraft II, but I couldn't stand that game. Didn't even play through those free 30 days.

Also, I thought I had spent a lot of time with Star Trek Online, but it just adds up to 6 days over the course of 4 years.

I have over 60 days between my characters. Most of that time was between the vanilla and BC, so I don't even have any high level characters besides a boosted 90.

Well, I started playing on November 23rd of 2004 and I stopped playing around the middle of December. So, figure an average of about three hours per day for 23 days -- my /timeplayed has to be around 70hrs.

I would have to estimate, as I've deleted a lot of characters (even some max-level ones), but I have always guessed somewhere around 5000 hours. I hopped characters a lot, so even my most-played character (a hunter) never cracked 100 days played. Also, I didn't sit around in-game to chat like I know many people do--if I was online, I was actively doing something. Played pretty religiously from mid-2005 to around mid-2011, with some smaller spurts here-and-there in the years following. I haven't gone back since the early months of MoP, and I really don't think the overall shittiness of WoD will bring me back.

Just enough to feel that I wasted some of my life. I'm glad I was there to experience the game in the beginning, but I definitely had my priorities wrong when I'd put this game before more important things. It's not the time played that I regret, it's the things I didn't do in place of playing this game that I regret. I don't have this feeling about any other games I've played.

I'm not currently subscribed, but /played on my main is scary enough, I don't think I'd want to add up my many alts. I can safely say I've played WoW more then any other game by orders of magnitude. There's something to be said for a game you can measure time spent in months.

    Edit (almost 4 years later):

161 days on my rogue, 82 days on my Warlock. Those were the two 60s I had in Vanilla, and continued to be my first and second characters to level every expansion, but I have many more alts.

@demoskinos: I used to think the same way, but it's convenient shorthand. Characters in an MMO - much like Twitter - are precious and so abbreviations/alternate, shorter words are encouraged.

I was somewhere around 2400 hours when I quit. Almost all of it was vanilla, pre TBC. I also did at least 100 hours in Beta.

    I don't regret a single hour.

Well... maybe a couple of them, but not many.

I only played one character to level 60 a couple of years ago. All I wanted was a flying mount, so when I got that I had no reason to continue.

I did play around 3000 hours of Guild Wars though.

I have 5 90's, but my highest /played is on my character that raided in vanilla that never made it past BC. All told about 8300 hours (or 346 days). On the bright side, I think that means I got my money's worth...right?

Im no longer subscribed, but i know i'd have ALOT of /played. granted it wouldnt be a very accurate "played" stat. since i often would log into WoW mute it, and watch tv "with' guildies using WoW as a glorified chat room. But it'd be really high, i'd also often leave myself logged in for long periods of time without playing, i'd just log in and leave my dude there for no reason. But i bet alot of people do that.

I played on one of my friends accounts for a bit back when Burning Crusade was the only expansion. So I'd say maybe 3-4 hours? I was never big on WoW and the game has been around so long now I don't really have much of a desire to start it up.

I wish Final Fantasy 14 had a playtime counter.

@wemibelec90: Whats so bad about WoD? It seems pretty cool.

Fewer dungeons at launch than even MoP, two zones that won't be finished before launch, many defining abilities for each class being taken away to remove "action bar bloat," no flying whatsoever (at least, that was the last thing I'd heard), a retread of areas from a previous expansion (likely redone, but still feels lazy), and all for an increased price of $50. I would also assume, based on past experience from previous expansions, an increasing trend towards dumbing down all non-endgame content to funnel people there and a large number of max-level dailies--which are the most boring content imaginable--that are crucial to success in endgame.

I'm sure it will all end up being a decent expansion in the end. Hell, I even expect I will end up playing it at some point, just out of curiosity. It's just that I, like many past players, have a very particular era of the game that they hold most dear with a particular feeling to the content that will never be recaptured.

@wemibelec90: They're charging full price for an EXPANSION? The hell? They aren't even done with two zones? How many dungeons DO they have on launch? Wrath of the Lich King IIRC had eight 5-man dungeons, hell, even Cataclysm I believe had eight. That sounds REALLY shady, like they're trying to milk it for all it's worth. And no flying at all? Why?

What's Blizzard's reasoning for all of this?

@random45: Yes, $50 for the expansion. The final zone, Tanaan Jungle, isn't going to be fully complete by launch and a previously teased zone called Farahlon won't be in at all. There will be eight dungeons at launch (down from nine in last xpac), with one of them being a redone UBRS. Blizzard has promised more dungeons this time, instead of going an entire expansion without adding any like with Mists. The flying thing is because they want to prevent players from flying over everything and to actually "experience" the new content. They may add flying later, they've said, but it won't be in at launch.

The common theory is that this wasn't what they had originally planned. Some believe that the half-finished expansion (coming after this one?) was put on hold and this was made in its place for the sake of training some of the people planned to work on Titan. Of course, that could all be conspiracy theories.
