Going to first call out @fobwashed for this, because he seems to be maybe the source of this. Good job Fobwashed.

Anyway, for whatever reason, we already have an ad for Watch Dogs 2.

I'm...bizarrely into it? I'm surprised. At least they seem to be going for it, whatever it is. I have to remind myself that this is a Ubisoft open-world game we're talking about here

It seems dumber so that's a plus compared to the overly self serious original. I still think smart phone hacking as a concept sucks. I just want a Hackers / Swordfish style nightmare verse.

That looked more like an ad for a phone than for a videogame but sure, I'm open to another hacking openworld game.

San Francisco is such a boring locale to choose. Nevermind that it's a US city again, but at least the first was set in a city that wasn't apart of California or New York.

If I didn't know what Watchdogs was I honestly would've thought that was an ad for some ghetto deodorant or a piece of hipster technology.

There is a part of me that is interested in this game if it actually wants to be a critique of how many different flavors of annoying tech has become in SF.

Kind of digging it to be honest, taking itself a little less seriously (at least that ad was) is not a bad move for Watchdogs. Gave off a sort of multiplayer tone to, wonder if you'll be teaming up with fellow hackers.

You know, I think I'd be interested in playing whatever game is the polar opposite of this...

I find it hard to believe it will be out in five months though.

@snail: What I THINK happened is that the ad began appearing on Twitch for whatever reason, and Fobwashed was the first guy to take the initiative in recording it. This is what I think occurred.

What I'm really hoping for, is this will be like the same evolution between Assassin Creed 1 and 2, but I remain at my most skeptic. This from a man who owns a Aidan Pearce statuette, clearly living my life incorrectly.

Shoot, I'm more excited for that ad reminding me about that song. Well, we'll see if this new tone can save this IP.

Yup. It's cool that the protagonist isn't quite as generic but we've been in California kind of a lot lately.

Really liked some of the things the first Watch Dogs had done. Things like hiding inside the car to evade cops, behaviours like trying to hide your weapon while in public were neat touches that added so much to the immersion for me. I had some of the most memorable experiences in an open world game because of it, namely hacking an entire ctOS control center without killing anyone, then shot then jumped out of a window and using a hacked train escape the area before the guards even know what hit them. What a god damn rush that was. However, as soon as compulsory gunfights started happening, I lost all interest. I was no longer playing as a mere hacker and more of a one-man army. I was so hoping for a no-kill path like one Deus Ex offers but sadly it wasn't meant to be. Also I didn't like the driving whatsoever and just used trains and bikes as the main source of transport as a result (now that I think about it, it would be cool to hack an uber for the sequel).

It seemed like the ideas were there but the execution was lacking. If they can fix the issues I had I wouldn't mind jumping back in.

California is probably geographically speaking the most interesting city on the West coast compared to all the other expanses of flat land. It also has a lot of recognizable landmarks. Ironically thanks to Hollywood I think most people from around the globe are able to recognize American cities a lot more than other places, which probably plays a lot into why they keep choosing US locations. It's cool if you make a game take place in Berlin but if most people won't be able to tell the difference between Berlin and a fictional city then whats the point? I enjoyed Sleeping Dogs quite a bit but I have no clue if that was actual Hong Kong or a layout they made up for the game. Setting your game in an actual place lends it that tiniest bit of authenticity and people need to be able to identify with what you've made in order for it to make sense. You might be from France, Morocco, Lebanon or Syria, and chances are you'll instantly recognize the Golden Gate Bridge.

At the very least, the tone they seem to be going for is immediately more interesting.

Wonder if it'll actually feel like the real place and not a Canadian stand-in city like the last time around.

I don't know what I just watched, honestly. It's like a mashup of some edgy attempt to hit the Mr. Robot crowd - which honestly could work if handled correctly - but as mentioned a bit here already there were some concepts that were ok in the first game but I didn't like Pearce at all, and couldn't tell you what the story actually was other than angry gravel voiced dude "hacks" stuff and has to save his sister because of course he does. I'd like something a little more anarchy-focused and if they're going to go Mr. Robot, lean all the way into it. Why does it seem like when a AAA pub tries to make something like this it just comes off as that faux-edge-lord aesthetic?

Yeah that was a bit "try hard" but the vibe is an immediate improvement regardless. Having some fun with those concepts vs having it be as grim.
