Violent J (Born Joseph Bruce on April 28, 1972) is one half of the Detroit based hardcore rap group Insane Clown Posse. The other member of the group, Shaggy 2 Dope (Joseph Utsler) is known for being the artist of all of the Joker's Cards artwork and typically having less verses in the music, but singing more choruses. Violent J is the bigger creative force behind the group of the two. The group is known for their blatant endorsement of Faygo soda, particularly Faygo Root Beer, which has been a staple of their lyrics and live shows since the inception of the group. The group is known for their silly antics, exorbitant use of strong language, and their inability to determine the answer to how magnets work, as evidenced in their infamous "Miracles" video. Their lyrics include themes of the occult, murder, sex, smoking marijuana, popping pills, and they all revolve around the theme of a Dark Carnival. Most songs are tales of the clowns killing people who have taken their life for granted.

The group is one of the most hated groups in mainstream music, with all of their albums being almost universally critically panned, except for the inner circle of the group's extremely devoted fans, called Juggalos (female Juggalos are called Juggalettes). A common misconception of people who don't listen to their music but criticize it is that the music is "rap-rock". While some of the early-2000's albums do have rock elements, they are still rap albums.

Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope, the other half of the Insane Clown Posse, appeared in both of the Backyard Wrestling games, and Violent J appeared on the cover of the second game. The two run a real-life wrestling league called Juggalo Championshit Wrestling, or the JCW for short. JCW emphasizes the extreme aspect of wrestling, and it is basically a real-life parallel to the Backyard Wrestling games, with brutal fights and weapons such as baseball bats with barbed wire around them, sheets of glass, and flourescent light tubes.
