I hope this either revitalizes the GH franchise, or puts the final nail in the coffin.

I have never bought and barely played a Guitar Hero or Rock Band game. 
 
This will probably not change in the near future.

Guitarhero 4 actually outsold Rockband 1 and  Guitarhero 5 actually outsold Rockband 2.   and both GH and RB sell millions of units per year. Just because you don't like something does not mean it does not sell.That being said I still love rockband but I still like guitarhero too.I buy both every time they come out and love them both. The story stuff of Guitar Hero has always been stupid and never worked. My only guess as to why they're putting so much focus on it this time around is that they've completely run out of ideas on how to evolve the game.
 
Rock Band 3 looks infinitely more interesting.

At least Rock Band doesn't have to resort to this kind of nonsense.

I seriously don't get the hate for this.  I can understand you just don't music games any more.
This quest mode with the story and crazy presentation is a really good thing. 
Anyone that does not see that either has a stick of their ass or is a rabid rockband fanboy.
Guess what I'm getting both and I've going to enjoy them both.
